Studying and she got an average of 97.3 on her tests. Ruby was in the training program for 44 weeks served an internship at Massachusetts general Hospital then stepped into her present Post. The Job makes her proud makes her family proud and has changed her life. The old Ruby she says is the old Ruby went to work at age 12 in the Cotton Fields when her father died. She Sang with a group for a while got stranded in Canada went Home to Georgia and did housecleaning ironing and cooking. She had two marriages a child by each and after her divorce a relationship with a Man who promised to take care of her third child and never the transformation of Ruby was a bargain. Her train ing Cost $3,000. Of the $85 million spent on it since 1982, $25 million came from Washington and $65 Mil lion from the state. But the savings the governor said Are considerable. When welfare clients Over the past two years dropped off the Rolls so did almost $70 million. Add in food Stamps and medicaid charges and the in come tax the employed will pay and the total gain is $107 million. She wanted to have children of her own but Bob was t sure. Money was tight the refrigerator needed cleaning. And you get the moving picture. It is not that i replaced the Happy ending of the screenwriter with an unhappy ending of my own. In my scenario they still loved each other. But they were no longer falling in they had landed. As people get older they have almost inevitably lived in one happily Ever after or another. They know what s coming after the end. They can see the huge centrifugal forces the clashes of will and personalities and the Trou Bles of everyday life kids work Money what Zorba the greek once called the whole in time maybe Many of us become less interested in How people get together and More interested in How they will stay together. The getting is so much Shorter than the falling in love seems so much less com plex than being in love. I suppose that s Why Romance movies Are about beginnings they re easier. But like incurable romantics they miss a lot. They miss the kind of love that s been around Long enough to include Friendship and Trust and a whole lot of gratitude.
