Why is it that one must be a commissioned officer to be accepted As a real person by those selected civilians i vote pay taxes and own property As some of those civilians do still to them that s not enough. I m not asking to be accepted by them just receive fair treatment. Do those civil ians believe the army is an organization for them and commissioned officers sure they have their place and quite use Ful in Many places. But ask the civilian who does the training the fighting the dying who performs those Long cold nights away from Home on guard duty to protect America who runs in 20 degree weather at 6 . To ensure they re in mental and phys ical shape to protect everyone then turn around and ask the same civil Ian who gets non chargeable leave to go Back to the states who does t get charged for weekends and holidays when they take leave who gets 18,000 pounds household goods allowance who gets a Cash award for doing an exceptional Job rather than an army achievement medal or army commendation medal no i m not saying get rid of civilians just that they should know More about the Soldier. Work 24 hours a Day yes on several occasions i have. But it was t because a civilian that knew nothing about soldiers wanted me to. Dothe foreign service wives do More than we do i doubt it. It May not be a written air Force policy that senior officers wives Are discouraged from working but i can Tell you from Myown experience and the experiences of my contemporaries that it is the policy of some Wing commanders and general officers. If i had been paid for my Volunteer workover the years i d be thousands of dollars Richer. We Don t get an entertainment allowance yet we gladly do a lot of entertaining. We pen pals certainly Don t get cheap or free housing or travel allowances to visit our families in the states. We accept these sacrifices and inconveniences As part of the Job.
