Cmdr Dennis c. Mcphate is assigned to the Institute of aviation Medicine part of the Raf s Royal aircraft establishment a research and development facility 20 Miles Southwest of London. It has tremendous files and its personnel have a wealth of knowledge. One of its chief attributes is continuity. The system is really quite new and is similar to the system going in our by  Mcphate said the new system involves generating oxygen from the air. Air is bled from the engine intake and processed through an oxygen concentrator that extracts nitrogen from it. The system eliminates the space wasting storage of liquid Gas bottles Normal practice aboard most Jet aircraft and requires Little servicing. It s relatively new technology but i think it is the wave of the future,.and most modern jets eventually will utilize it he said. Mcphate also is involved in the development of an air Crew personal conditioning system. Basically it s a Vest that a member of an air Crew would Wear that has tubing through which liquid can be circulated to either heat or  its main application would be As protective clothing in nuclear biological or chemical Abc warfare he said. Since conventional Abc clothing generates so much heat the new system promises to keep wearers Cool Mcphate said. Both the oxygen system and the air Crew condition ing system Are regularly tested aboard the Hunter Mcphate files for 10 to 15 hours every month.
