The Center of the Green office car Peting is emblazoned with Orange boxing gloves bearing his name. Behind his chair is a Large painting of him in the Green and yellow trunks he wore for the 1971 Ali fight. On the opposite Wall hangs another painting of him in those trunks and a poster of his Victory party. Outside the office a life size Black and White poster of his 15th-round Knockdown of Ali greets visitors. Yet Frazier says he does t think much about that fight unless he s asked about it. Floored Ali in 15th round Berry proves Foo Tough or Darms Adf Giessen women Advance in v corps by Tim Boivin staff writer Giessen Germany Giessen guard Shirley Berry was not a bit weary. When that happens the Wolver ettes opponents should be leery. Just ask the Darmstadt lady demons. The Spunky spark plug ignited Giessen to a 77-67 Victory Here saturday As the Wol Verette took their v corps Best of three quarterfinal series 2-0. Giessen won 70-55 wednesday at Darmstadt which finished the season 7-8. Giessen 10-5 on the year next encounters Western division Champion Baumholzer in the semifinals starting wednesday. Berry was fresh from Start to finish Tal lying 18 Points to share scoring honors with teammates Harriet Washington and Vale Ria Allen. That May sound like a balanced scoring attack but it was Berry s ability to break the Back of anything that Darmstadt tried that won the game for the Wolver ettes. Darmstadt coach Ron Eastman thought he could beat Giessen with a press a Tough thing to do considering the lady demons had just seven players they could suit up for the game and Giessen had 10. We beat them during the regular season by pressing them Eastman said. We weren t successful with it wednesday but army basketball we thought we d try it again one thing Eastman had t counted on was Berry s never tiring efforts. She con stantly blitzed past his defenders drove the Lane to shoot or dished off the Ball to Washington or Allen on the wings. The 10-Point final margin could have been even larger if several of Berry s Slick passes had t been mishandled by unsuspecting teammates. Eastman s pressing strategy was wrinkled and then unravelled Early by Berry who scored four Quick Points in the first 1 45. The Wolver ettes Rode Berry s bronc busting fast break and jumped out to an 8-0 Lead after just three minutes of play. They were on their Way to an 18-8 advantage Midway through the first half As Berry scored five More Points. They tried to slow us Down but it did t really affect us the 5-foot-3 Berry said. I guess at this stage of the season they would try anything to after the Early spurt Giessen went into its usual Laid Back lifestyle allowing Darm Stadt to pull within three at 19-16 As Berry caught a Short breather on the Bench. The hot guns in the Early going for Darmstadt were forwards Carolyn Autry and Leshia Toney who teamed for 12 of the lady demons first 16 Points. We have a tendency to flow with the game not finishing teams off when we have them Down " said Berry who played col lege Ball at West Virginia state. When Berry came Back in she was Back on quarterbacking the Ball around the zone Darmstadt put up after the Early press had t worked. Berry was Able to drive around the lady demons guards in the 3-2 zone and draw the Darmstadt front line in on her. A Quick pass was usually enough to free either Washington or Lynette Harper for Poppers from 12-15 feet. Harper finished with 12 Points in the game As Giessen constructed a 43-31 halftime advantage. In the second half Darmstadt came out breathing some demonic fire double and triple teaming Berry As she came up court with the Ball. The lady demons also were Able to give Giessen s Tough and tall Center Brenda Moore some splinter time on the Bench As she fell into foul trouble Early. Moore had been the dominant Force in the Wolver ettes defense forcing the lady demons to take off balance and double pump shots when they came near the Lane. With Moore out that opened up the mid dle for Autry and Toney. Darmstadt guard Sherrin Bozeman was Able to get the Ball to them or score herself As the lady demons pulled within six at 63-57. But then Berry killed the lady Demon s comeback attempt scooting Down the Lane for two twirling baskets to spark Giessen on a 9-2 spurt that gave it breathing room at 71-59 with four minutes left. We were working the Ball Early in the second half waiting until the defense would shift too much to one player. Then we d try to hit the open person. Once they started to get close we went to our fast break offence in that 9-2 spurt and running always seems to get us on the right track again Berry said. Allen Over at the off guard spot held off the lady demons in the final minutes with some mid Range shooting that preserved the Victory. The lady demons were Able to stay within striking distance in the final min utes mostly on the shooting of guard Jessi Ca Mathis who finished with 12 Points. But it was Berry that set the Tempo Early in the game for the Wolver ettes and it was the Hopkinsville ky., native that set the tone for the semifinals against Baum older. We have to play As a team Good on defense and get that running game going. Then we re of Berry said. Autry led the lady demons with 25 Points Toney added 14 and Bozeman ended up with 10.
