Meanwhile Firestone s car spun and slammed broadside into an Energy absorb ing Barrier at the end of the Concrete Wall that separates the track from the pits. The padded Barrier was destroyed and fires tone s car which broke almost in half wound up against the Concrete end of the Wall. Part of the fuel cell was exposed by the crash but there were no leaks and no fire. Houston made it 4-0 in the eighth on Jose Cruz s rib single and Mark Bailey s bases loaded walk. The pirates moved runners to third base twice. In the first Bill Almon and Sammy Khalifa led off with singles. A grounder moved the runners up but ground outs ended the inning. With two out in the sixth Almon again reached third but Knepper struck out Mike Brown to end the inning. Krukow 6-3. Struck out five and walked none and retired the last 23 batters he faced after yielding a two run Homer to Keith Hernandez in the first inning. Craig Kcf forts pitched three innings of scoreless Relief to pick up his first save. Braves 2, cubs 0 Atlanta Joe Johnson and Paul Assn Machor combined on a fisc hitter to Send Atlanta past Chicago for its seventh straight Victory. Johnson 6-3, struck out four and walked two Over 8m innings. Assn Machor retired two hitlers for his fourth save. Expos 5, dodgers 2 los Angeles Andre Dawson s two run double highlighted a three run seventh inning that lifted Montreal Over los Angeles. Mike Fitzgerald started the winning rally with a Lead off double and went to third when Tim Raines slammed a line drive off Pitcher Bob Welch s left calf. Key Blanks Chison with 1 hitter from press dispatches Chicago Jimmy key backed by Ernie Whitt s second career grand slam pitched a one hitter for his first major league shutout thursday night leading the Toronto Blue jays to a 5-0 Triumph Over Chicago. Whitt who was the Goat of wednesday night s game when he committed a key throwing error and was charged with a passed Ball hit his fourth Homer in the fourth inning with one out on a 3-2 count. The Blue jays had loaded the bases against Dotson with two walks and a single by Jesse Barfield. Toronto took a 1-0 Lead after Barfield led off the second with a single and moved to second when Whitt walked two outs later. Dotson then uncorked a wild pitch and when Barfield broke for third Catcher Carl ton Fisk s throw went into left Field allow ing Barfield to score. Bordi fanned Pinch hitter Reggie Jackson with the bases loaded after the Angels had scored twice in the sixth. It was Bordi s second save. The orioles who have won 10 of their last 12 games took a 3-1 Lead when Lynn hit his fourth Homer to left following sin Gles by Juan Bonilla and Jim Dwyer. Mariners 5, tigers 3 Detroit Seattle relievers Matt Young and Pete Ladd each squelched de troit rallies to help preserve the mariners Victory. With Seattle leading 3-1, Young 4-3, relieved starter Milt Wilcox with one out in the fifth and tigers on first and second. Young walked to move up both runners be fore getting Darrell Evans to pop up and striking out Darnell Coles to end the threat. Indians 5, Brewers 4 Milwaukee Brett Butler s three run triple capped a four run sixth inning that gave Cleveland a Victory Over Milwaukee. Cal halon 2-3, pitched Svi innings and allowed three runs for the Victory. Rica Yett went two thirds of an inning before Scott bails finished for his fourth save Ted Higuera 5-4, pitched eight innings yielding five hits Ana five runs four unearned. Mark Clear pitched the ninth. Royals 5, rangers 4 Arlington Texas Jorge Orta knocked in three runs with a Solo Homer and a two run double and Frank White also homered As Kansas City Defeated Texas. Danny Jackson 2-0, took a two hit shut out and a 4-0 Lead into the seventh but the rangers got consecutive singles by Pete o Brien Pete Incaviglia Tom Paciorek Toby Harrah and Steve Buechele to Cut the margin to 4-3. Dan Quison Berry came out of the bullpen to Stop the rally retiring Gary Ward on liner to Short with two outs and the bases loaded.
