T i january is the time for statistical reports and where automobile racing is concerned the an Nual Goodyear press release arrived recently to announce that 1988 attendance was up sharply in Bot International formula one racing and american Rac ing with total attendance in the United states top Ping the 10 million Mark for the first time. The Goodyear tire & rubber co. Of Akron Ohio has been deeply and successfully involved in top line racing for Many years and it is in a Good position to report on attendance. The 1989 season will Mark Goodyear s 25th year of supplying specialized racing tires in the formula one world championship series. During 1987 an again last year Goodyear was the sole supplier of formula one tires and at the end of the 1988 seasong9odyear-shod cars had scored a total of 216 grand prix victories. This is More than any other tire manufacturer in the modern Era of grand prix racing an Era that began with the 1950 season. Goodyear s first formula one Victory was scored by the California Driver Richie Ginther when he won the 1965 mexi can grand prix aboard a Goodyear shod Honda. According to Goodyear s statistics the attendance at major american Auto racing events during 1988 increased by nearly 1 million spectators and sur passed the 10-million Mark for the first time. Good year says that a record 10,504,104 spectators at tended 258 events during 1988, up from 9,561,049 for 268 events in 1987. The report said average event attendance in 1988 Rose 14.1 percent to 40,714 from 35,676 the previous year with an Overall in crease of 943,055 spectators.
