If we were to follow a recent writer s advice we would Tell our children not to listen to magic because he a a stupid immature disgrace. We should ask people who donate Money to aids research if they Are donating because they heard that a a tragic Johnson is Iii positive. If they Are we accept their Money because they Are following the advice of one of the a mass murderers of 1991. I Hope this sounds stupid because it is. I had the Opportunity to meet and talk to magic several times while stationed in san Antonio Texas and working for the san Antonio spurs. He was just a Nice Guy. He never pulled a gun or knife on any of the women waiting to meet him after the games. They pursued him. I know i was there. He a a class individual whose contribution to our society now transcends the world of sports. He has done More to help aids research in two hours than most if not All of you detractors will in a lifetime. A tech sgt. Brian Williams Brun sum Nethe Landsall about choices i wish to reply to the recent letter about the ownership and use of guns. The writer stated that a he does no to believe that some Hunters Hunt for the enjoyment of communing with nature. A pistols Are meant for killing and nothing else. A having guns in ones Home is More dangerous than not. How dare you presume to Tell me How and what to enjoy i enjoy Hunting. I Hunt to kill animals. Then my family and i eat them. I enjoy shooting targets with pistols. Of All the dozens of pistol users i know not one has killed a person with a pistol. Only a few have killed anything at All with a pistol. Agree with the last Point. Unless you treat guns As deadly tools and teach your family their proper use you re courting disaster by having one in your Home. To sum up i enjoy owning and using firearms. Firearms Are no More dangerous than the person using them. While i agree that having a potentially deadly weapon in my Home is More inherently dangerous than not i choose to be Able to meet any intruder with the weapon of my Choice. Choices Are what its All about. 1 choose not you or anyone else. A sgt. De a. Taylor Worms German the 12-hour shift i would like to comment on the letter titled a fall about shift i agree with All the writer said about the shift work of a Security policeman but something she failed to bring up was the 12-hour shift. I know there Are other career Fields that require 12-hour shifts but take into account that an eight hour shift for a Security policeman ends up being 10 hours of work the 12-hour shift is a 14-hour Day. Depending on the schedule at Best the 12-hour shift schedule is three on and three off. That May seem like a lot of time off. It in t. The night shift worker goes to work around 5 . And gets Home around 7 . If this worker can get to sleep by 7 30 and sleep for seven hours he or she would be getting up at 2 30 . Two and a half hours later its Back to work. That does t leave enough time to go to the gym get a haircut go to the laundry or eat a Good meal As Well As prepare for another 14-hour night. The Only advantage to the Day shift is the sunlight. Its still impossible to manage As an individual does who has a 7 30 .-4 30 . Office position. The shift work sounds great you Only work 15 out of 30 Days True however the first Day is wasted on resting from the past three Days of work and the third Day is spent in preparation for the upcoming three Day Cycle. This is not a Good schedule. I wonder if retention and Quality of the Force Are affected by this Type of shift work. Incidentally. 1 happen to work in operations support 7 30 .-4 30 ., hut i will gladly stay later or come in earlier if needed. After All we Are All out to accomplish the same Mission for the same unit. I feel Safe at night knowing that my Brothers in arms the peacekeepers Are on duty 24 hours a Day. A staff sgt. Jeffrey w. Armed forces Are composed of men and women sworn to support and defend the Constitution of the United states. Our Mission As Gen. Macarthur succinctly put it is to a win our the size location salaries armaments and actions of our armed forces Are dictated by Congress and the president. For Well Over a decade the . Armed forces have been composed of volunteers. These Are supposed to be people who see their service As a personal Benefit and an invaluable service to the nation. The oath that is Given upon entering military service should be carefully considered before anyone takes it. We Are in the midst of a reduction of . Forces. Article i Section 8 of the Constitution Grants Congress the Power to conduct such a reduction. Apparently in Light of the Early 1980s buildup of forces Congress has authorized a comprehensive separation pay program designed to compensate service members who Are exiting the armed forces because of the reduction of our military forces. It pains me to listen to the vocal minority ? who denounces the legitimacy of this process. I find the use of phrases such As Quot understood career contract and Quot credit Tor. Years allowing me to retire with full pay and benefits to be shamefully Soltish and ignorant. Those people need to reread their contracts and do some research on the cons Titu letters to the editor tonal Powers of Congress which the ironically swore to defend. The profession of arms is not a welfare state hidden under the laurels of military service. It is a unique profession in which the selfless service concept plays an important role. For those who Dino acc the generous terms of our current reduction based on erroneous contract interpretations and an implied love of the military profession i chastise you for your deceit. I do not believe it is military service you love. I believe it is was a stable paycheck and a Job with Security based on the existence of the .s.r. I find your incessant complaining to he both disgraceful ail groundless. A 1st it. Patrick d. Cason Crail sheim Germany we improved address two first class letters were mailed to me on . 17, 1991, from the states. One had the new improved Apo address and the other the old address. Both arrived on Jan. 14. It proves to me that the new Apo address system in t any worse than the old. Unfortunately it Isnit any better either. Also an organization of which i am a member requires a zip-plus-4 because of postal regulations. If this is so Why does t the new improved Apo address have a zip-plus-4? All the literature in be read specifically states that there is no zip-plus-4. Did t these people talk to one another before making such a significant change a senior master sgt. Jerry whittle Raf upper Heyford England time for economic War the latest article i read Jan. 21 confirms what Many japanese people think of american Industry. I was really angry that a High level official could be so callous in his discriminatory remarks about the average american worker. Where does Japan come off calling the Kettle Black i think this is a serious calling to an All out economic War Between our countries that is Long overdue. American Industry needs to get off its rear end and compete instead of complain. Our industries need Complete reorganization. We need to set goals that Are realistic. We Are not going to beat Japan overnight but we can catch and surpass them in the Long term. American Consumers Aren t stupid so products that exceed standards and specifications in every product Market worldwide should he made. Do you want America to he considered a japanese subcontractor it s High time we awake our sleeping Industrial giant and Point it toward the har East.
