I was also waiting for that flight with my daughter who was exercising her student travel option and returning to College. Reporting time was saturday at 7 45 ., and the fog was dense. The plane landed in Cologne and remained there. The flight was cancelled at about 3 30 . Nett indicated that hotels were provided for approximately 350 passengers. Not mentioned was Luggage retrieval and loading on buses by the passengers a which did not occur until 6 . I understand that passengers were not settled until 11 . On sunday passengers returned to the terminal at noon with the plane expected at 2 30 . It did not arrive. The next expected time was 5 30 ., and then again at 7 30 . The fog had again engulfed the Airport and As Nett indicated the 747 made three attempts to land but could not. At 10 30 . Sunday after again reclaiming and loading Luggage passengers were bused to Cologne. The flight took off at 4  Monday. Fog is an act of god a fact that no one disputes. An undisputed fact is that terminals under construction present problems. However by late sunday afternoon there were no open facilities and no provisions made for acquisition of food baby formula milk or diapers items that travellers carry in limited Supply. The hotel cafeteria was too far away the weather too bad and the information too sketchy to allow a Young family to walk there. Envision 300 people trapped in a holding pen for nearly two Days with elevated noise Levels As youngsters began to cry in hunger. Mothers were searching for milk a Token amount of which was brought in just before the buses arrived sunday night after i had made numerous Calls to the terminal non commissioned officer in charge. Obviously this was an unusual situation. However the military is trained to Cope with the unusual even if added to the Normal workload.
