Cincinnati held a 20-14 Lead in the final minute of play in the National football league game in riverfront stadium but Joe Namath had led a new York drive to the bengals 11-Yard line late in the fourth Quarter. On the first of the controversial plays Namath completed a pass to Caster in the end zone at the left sideline. Field judge Frank Luzar ruled the pass incomplete contending that Caster did not catch the Ball with both feet in Bounds. Numerous videotape replays including a slow motion shot from an end zone camera which gave an unobstructed View of the sideline showed that Caster left foot was clearly in the end zone and that he seemed to drag his right foot across the sideline with the foot first touching the ground in the end zone. If that was the Case the pass should have been ruled Complete and the touchdown allowed. But because of the High placement of the camera it was impossible to Tell definitely whether Caster s foot did touch the ground inside the end zone As the films appeared to show. On the second controversial play Caster raced into the end zone and Cut toward the Middle of the Field. Namath hit him with the pass and Caster was tackled immediately. Luzar spotted the Ball inside the one Yard line while the jets claimed Caster had caught the Ball in the end zone. Replays showed that when Caster caught the Ball against his Chest he was about one Yard deep in the end zone leaning for Ward from the Knees so that his body appeared to be direct above the Goa line. The replays from cameras located High above the sidelines near mid Field appeared to indicate that Caster caught the Ball in the plane above the Goa line and it should have been ruled a touch Down. But the camera Angle does not allow for a definitive judgment. The Only picture which would show whether the Ball actually reached the Goa line is one taken from the sideline looking directly across the Field along the goal. And no such camera placement was used.
