The White House knew at the time of the burglary that Ellsberg had Given secret Pentagon papers about the Vietnam War to the press and the White House also had information that Ellsberg had Given the documents to the soviet embassy Here the lawyer said. He said the investigation of Ellsberg which president Nixon has admitted or Dering personally was aimed partially at determining whether Ellsberg had Given information on the sensitive matter to the press the russians or anybody else. If his client is indicted this lawyer said i would immediately subpoena certain documents which he said would show Why the Ellsberg operation was authorized and what its full extent was. Rather than allow information about the allegedly sensitive matter to be introduced at trial he predicted the White House would refuse on National Security grounds. Instead criminal court judge Dan Satin sentenced Larry Clark to 30 years in prison monday. I think we have to eventually realize that the present method of sentencing has to be changed Satin said. Last april and Satin had said he was considering prorating Clark and making him support Smith s family. Diocese opens and Campaign for priest recruits new York a father John o Leary if he s not in Church he s Proba Bly in jail the advertisement declared in big Type. The newspaper and Magazine and de scribing the work of a priest who counsels prisoners is part of a $100,000 advertising Campaign being launched by the roman Catholic archdiocese of new York to help find recruits for its shrinking Priesthood. The advertising Effort is believed to be the first of such scope by any diocese in the nation. Its theme the new York priest. God knows what he does for a  i m sure that god does know it but we re anxious for everyone else to know it Terence Cardinal Cooke archbishop of new York said at a news conference Mon Day. The Cardinal said the archdiocese had been faced with a shortage of priests for years. The Rev. George Thompson director of vocations for the archdiocese said there currently were 950 priests compared with 1,000 to 1,100 during the late 1960s. Many parishes which used to have three or four priests now have two or three father Thompson said. The 13-week advertising Campaign is being financed through private fund Rais ing and aided by Lay volunteers who work in various Fields of communications. A Lay group of professional admin has developed a series of five ads telling about father o Leary along with a Parish priest a slum priest a Black priest and a monsignor.
