Founded on the initiative of the German theater Institute a Branch of the Enesco theater organization previous world theater festivals were held in Hamburg in 1979  Cologne in 1981. This year there will be some 35 plays in 120 performances for the viewing which is designed to give the Spectator an overview of the trends in modern theater.
