The midget Man is the nickname for what the Pentagon Calls the Small inter Continental ballistic missile or Sicam. Congress has already approved development of the missile which was recommended by president Reagan s scowcroft commission in 1983 As a Means of modernizing the United states land based missile Force. Unlike the giant my missile the coun try s newest inter Continental missile which can carry 10 nuclear warheads the midget Man is a Small single warhead mis Sile designed for Mobile firing. Congress has supported the project to Date because of that mobility which would make it difficult for the missiles to be targeted by the soviet Union for a first strike attack. So far however no final decision has been made on whether the missiles will be carried on Mobile launch ers or placed in new specially hardened silos. The project has also recently become the subject of some controversy. A special task Force of the defense science Board was ordered to take a fresh look at the missile following a report by the general accounting office that concluded the mis Sile might be too Small to strike some Mili tary targets in the soviet Union. The also estimated it could Cost $44 billion for a Force of 500 Mobile mis Siles and disclosed other technical prob lems confronting the program such As developing an affordable guidance system that would remain accurate while the mis Sile was moving. At the moment the air Force plans to begin deploying the missile in late 1992. Icy Outlook a photo tourists appear to be standing at the Brink of a Frozen Waterfall at Niagara Falls.
