Under the plan approved by the House armed services military personnel and compensation subcommittee service members retiring after 30 years would still get 75 percent of their base pay just As under the current system the official said. But anyone retiring before 30 years would get less than under the current system. The subcommittee opted to leave the 20-year minimum for retirement intact the Pentagon official said. But the new plan would give service members Only 40 percent of their base pay if they retire after 20 years rather than the current 50 percent.
