I m sure that not Many people knew that even though we All Are a part of some Squadron in a Way. The wives of the he Safe team were there. We were there during the entire season. Watching our husbands bleeding from scratches laughing at the refs for bad Calls sweating As they took that last worn out breath just As other wives of Good Squadron teams. Where was the squad Ron support what happened to the Squadron team the Cheevers the people who work with them and see them almost As much As we the wives after All of this hard playing for an unappreciative Squadron the playoffs came. All of the games were Beautiful and As a wife i would like to say thank god for will Power because these men played like champions. But of course the playoffs Are to decide who the Best Squadron team is. During the week of feb. 24, the he Safe Squadron team played six games. At these games were the same five wives who were there All year. The last game for the championship was with cars. They were a Good team. They won first place. But what about those Guys who came in second and third what about All that Effort that was put into the games to make their Squadron feel proud of having winners not Only workers but winners the first place champions received mugs. Big Deal the second and third got nothing not even a Pat on the Back besides those from their teammates and wives. Ponce Vasquez former Coic of Darmstadt sports and a Friend of fast pitch softball players for the past 25 years succumbed to cancer recently Back in his Home state of Texas. Ponce will certainly be missed by the old timers of fast pitch softball. In the Early 60s at fort Bragg and the 70s and 80s Here in Europe Ponce was instrumental in keeping fast pitch competitive. A Small Man of 5-feet-3 inches 150 pounds Ponce had a Way with men to make them winners. Old timers on the european fast pitch softball league scene will always remember this Little giant always competitive and inspirational.
