They keep telling me i was expected to be in bed until next january the new York native said sitting in a Hospi. Tal canteen sipping Coffee. That makes me realize i be come a Long Way fast but i still have a fight ahead of  Mccluskey 34, was Riding her Bike to work in Frankfurt on the morning of sept. 15 when a car pulled out of a Park ing place ahead of her. Swerving to avoid the car her Bike Slid on a Streetcar track and Mccluskey fell into the path of an oncoming vehicle. She was rushed to a nearby German Hospital suffering from massive head in juries and multiple fractures caused by the Accident. Mccluskey remained in a coma for 40 Days. She remembers that when she woke up she got out of bed and seated herself in a wheelchair to the amazement of the Hospital staff. About six weeks later Mccluskey was walking with crutches and now gets around on her own despite a prosthetic device that replaced her crushed left hip. Mccluskey s jaw was wired Back to Gether and a Metal plate implanted in Side her Mouth forcing her to learn to talk again too. Then there were the financial pains. After five months in a bad Homburg neurology clinic near Frankfurt Mcclus key a civil Engineer with the . Army corps of engineers had used up her accumulated annual leave and sick time. Her insurance company is still paying Hospital expenses but Mccluskey received nothing from the owner of the car that caused the Accident because he was never located. She has t received a pay Check since february. Finally one other worry haunted her memories of her past were sketchy and although talking with friends brought Back random remembrances some of the basics were missing. For example she had to learn to read again. Although she does t know or remember knowing All the people she worked with at the corps of engineers they Haven t forgotten her. When her co workers found out about Mccluskey s non pay status they rallied to support her in a practical Way. Under a leave sharing program Feder Al workers Are allowed to donate annual leave time to other government employees in personal emergency situations. The military services began implementing the test program earlier this year with the army s version taking effect aug. 5. The program is to last until sept. 30 unless it is extended or replaced by permanent Law. Mccluskey s co workers began Donat ing hours in june in anticipation of the program s implementation. I added up Over 700 hours in the first four Days we started accepting donations said Kitty Cinnamond of the engineers personnel management Section. People who did t even know her were giving her their  in the lobby of the building where Mccluskey worked for six years Cinna mond set up a Board requesting donations and each Day the amount of hours recorded on the Board had to be changed. As of tuesday 2,680 hours had been donated. Before transferring those to Mccluskey a leave account Cinna mond s office was awaiting verification of another 600 hours from Usa eur engineers. Total donated hours add up to 410 Days so Mccluskey won t lose a Day of pay for her convalescence. A lot of people gave out of sympathy but lots did it because they know i am a Good worker and they want me Back Mccluskey said gratefully about her co workers contributions. Under the plan donations Are limited to half an employee s leave time. I Felt touched by the  now that her financial Outlook is brighter Mccluskey is free to concen trate her Energy on getting physically and mentally Well again. Part of her memory therapy includes reciting the alphabet and although she admits that after eight letters she begins to miss some Mccluskey gets bored with one language. So she s working on three German which she Speaks around the Hospital plus the English and French she recalls taking in College. I feel frustrated being in the Hospi Tal Mccluskey said smiling slightly. But this place has done wonders  she laughs again about being told she would be bedridden for a year and How recently her doctor told her she May be Able to return to work by the end of the year. I m not trying to Rush Mccluskey said. It was bothering and scaring me that the memories weren t there. But now i know memories Aren t that important. What s important is that i can read Well speak Well walk Well and work again. It will All come  rooster runs afoul of Law Santa Ana Calif. Dyson s administrative assistant Katie Tucker said last week that Dyson was first contacted by Farley executives about co diesel in May 1987. She said they asked her Boss to support their Appeal to the army Board of contract adjustment for an additional $13 million an increase of almost 130 percent for completing the last two years of a four year contract for Mobile ribbon Bridges. On june 17, Dyson wrote to Secretary of the army John o. Marsh supporting Farley s claim under a rarely invoked statute that co dec corp. Of Waterbury conn., the Farley subsidiary that owned co diesel was so vital to the National defense that to stave off bankruptcy the army should increase the Price it was paying. A few months later the army turned Down the re quest. The company then asked to be released from the last year of its three year contract. Dyson according to Tucker supported the company s request by arguing that the army did t need any More ribbon Bridges of the design manufactured by co diesel. The old Bridges he said could t support the new heavier my tank. Dyson confirmed monday that in september 1987 he had intervened with the army on behalf of Farley executives. He showed reporters a copy of an aug. 26 letter from w. Daniel Heidt the Connecticut based president of co diesel that concluded Farley Indus tries had no other alternative than to proceed to a liquidation of  Dyson said he did not Tell co diesel s Salisbury employees about the company s plans to shut the plan because that was Farley Industry s responsibility. Nor he said did he know until last week that Heidt had contributed $ 1,000 to his Campaign last year while the discussions about the Plant were taking place
