Continued from Page 9 matched up and their identities will not soon be forgotten. Cheko Skaya a queenly fragile presence with amazingly Long arms is physically Ideal for tragic romantic roles. Catlike Svetlana Kuznetsova personified Glamor and elegant technique in her two Star turns one of which was the grand Pas of carnival in Venice with Gordeyev. Kaya kerb stunned the audience with robust Speed strength and precision in Minkus paquita. The men were a special revelation powerfully slicing through the air at incredible Heights and creating marvelous Strong characters with rip snorting masculinity. Anyone who insists that male Ballet dancers Are sissies obviously never ran into this Bunch. Unfortunately it was impossible to determine which male dancer was who most of the time with the exception of Gordeyev because of the altered dance program and what appeared to be a number of replacements in key parts. For the record however the dancer playing the sinuous Devil in Faust kerb s partner in paquita and a pair of nimble acrobats who vied for Ballerina Maria Filipenko s affections in die Puppe fee were just four of the men who startled and stirred with their finesse. At a time when Nureyev and Baryshnikov Are dancing less Gelsey Kirkland is living off her drug riddled memoirs and Patrick Bissell is dead the time is Ripe fora new blast of excitement and explosive Talent to energize and revitalize the Ballet world.
