Senate oks jail term for workers with aids who fail to Tell patients Cox news service Washington the Senate approved a proposal thursday calling for a minimum 10-year prison term for health care workers infected with the aids virus who treat patients without first disclosing their condition. The measure sponsored by sen. Jesse Helms r-n.c., passed 81-18, despite appeals from opponents who urged the Senate to adopt less severe proposals released monday by the Federal centers for disease control in Atlanta. The Senate also approved 99-0, a measure based on the cd guidelines. Those guidelines would require states to enact and enforce guidelines for aids testing of doctors dentists and other medical personnel. Doctors who fail to comply would risk discipline by state medical licensing boards.
