The braves entered a three game series at the Astrodome having lost four of their previous five games and trailing los Angeles by two games. The dodgers beat visiting san f Francisco 6-2 to maintain their Lead. Houston Rookie starter Ryan Bowen shut out the braves on two hits and held a 2-0 Lead Over the first seven innings. But Lonnie Smith started the rally with a Lead off double in the eighth and Xavier Hernandez relieved. Mark Lomke singled for Atlanta a first run and loser Rob Mallicoat 1-1 came on to pitch. Terry Pendleton and David Justice each singled bringing on Mark Portugal with the bases loaded and no outs.
