Take Pitburg a for example a the Pride of Safe. Since the Early ?T80s, both the base appearance and character have improved. More facilities extensive renovations hold it. Renovations yes More and More by the Day but seeming to amount to no More than Mere face dressing for the convenience and approval of the Public. Yet while the beautification goes on we the gis suffer a Lack of Basic necessities a prime example of which is adequate and sound housing. The common reply to the complaints about bad housing is the typical a Lack of Joe we seem to have invested millions in fixing the sidewalks planting Flowers on every Street Corner buying Cement to fix up and renovate every facility on base. Of yes housing was partially fixed up half the buildings looking like Taj mahals the rest like a bad Corner of big City Usa. When i moved in a year ago it did no to take me Long to realize that the base commander had to know How bad my apartment looked which he did. It took a whole year of phone Calls and it lain not giving up to make the place viable. The poor Guys in be civil engineering must be thought i had it in for them. For years now basements have been regularly flooded by the sewage backing up into the Low lying areas. Solution too expensive to fix. So i watch the families drag out the wet clothes the soaked Duffel bags and storage boxes ruined furniture and wait for the next episode while hoping it wont be in my basement. So when i find a notice on the stairwell door stating a a. Doorbells mailboxes not properly identified will be reported to your commander a 1 truly Ponder the meaning of words like priorities waste of funds and uncommon sense. A master sgt. Alfred Boisson or. Pitburg German experience necessary this is in response to the sergeant who wrote a a done to place on the contrary one does have to be Black to understand the a Black it runs much deeper than being Able to relate to Martin Luther King or. And Rodney King. The situations they faced Are Public knowledge. Were your grandparents slaves did your parents have to endure Jim Crow As for present situations lets not forget South Africa. Although persons of All races May have faced inequality at one time or another not All live with it on a daily basis. You have no idea of what its like to be Black. I would like to explain the to shirts message but a a it a a Black thing you a Marcus t. Mcgee Ramstein Germany icing the message this letter is addressed to the woman who wrote about Black people who Wear the to shirt a a it a a Black thing you would t i happen to be a Black person and 1 do understand. You Only a the Back of the to shirt. On the front there Are pictures of Martin Luther King or. And Malcolm x. The whole Point of the to shirt is that Martin Luther King or. And Malcolm x stood up for Black people. For speaking up they were murdered. They happened to have been Many Black Peoples heroes. They spoke for Equality and against injustice. They Only tried to right the wrongs of prejudice. Until you understand that Point it will continue to be a Black thing and you still wont understand. How can you speak for All people who Arentt Black you can to and wont understand because you Arentt Black and you never will be. Once again you show that you done to understand. I am trying to flote Harmony to those who do understand and antagonize those who done to. A pfc. John c. Weatherall or. On sept. 19, the movie Lassie come Home came on at 8 50 . Yes 1 could have taped it but 1 missed the beginning because of an errand i had to run. My children would really enjoy this movie but now wont get the Chance to see it. I guess have to Settle for watching a wedding for two men in love on Donahue after school. Does this really make sense to an or do they just not care maybe they should have mothers working at an who care what children see on television. A Debbe Delabar Baum older Germany Baumholzer news blues everybody has a Hometown newspaper. A Hometown paper is the one place you can count on to get local information. We in Baum older have such a paper a or had until sept. 26 gone Are the Days of going to the Mailbox on thursdays for our Champion times. We now have to rely on a biweekly paper that will service three major communities a Baum older bad Kreuz Nach and Mainz. Instead of our weekly nine pages we Are going to get four pages in a biweekly publication. 1 can to speak for All of us in Baum older Neu Briecke Ldar Oberstein and Teitscheid All the our newspaper serve but 1 Wager 1 speak for most a 1 could t care less what goes on in Mainz or bad Kreuz Nach. If something significant should happen there 1 read about it in the stars and stripes. As a member of this Community for the last five years 1 am deeply saddened by the loss of our paper. As a taxpayer 1 am angered that a paper which essentially paid for itself is going to be re place by a paper paid for with appropriated funds. Our newspaper though it struggled paid for its own printing costs letters to the editor through advertisements. The a a new paper will be funded with tax dollars. In this Era of budget cuts does this make sense not to me. Also i am fairly certain that we have a higher concentration of americans in Baum older and its outlying communities than does Mainz or bad Kreuz Nach. We May be located in a Small farming Village but there Are a lot of us he re. Why move the paper to Mainz our Champion times brought a Hometown feeling to our a a Home overseas. It was an Opportunity to see our friends and family in the paper. Most importantly however it provided a wealth of information. Newcomers to our Community especially benefited from our paper. They will be the ones who will suffer the most. A the great planners for our future have struck again. A Teresa Shafe Baum older Germany a movie House madness the letter a respect the anthems was just the tip of the iceberg. My wife and i have not been to an cafes theater in Over three years now. Why we went once and believe what we saw. It Wasny to a theater but a dumping place for unsupervised children and teens. It would have been More appropriate calling this the cafes gym. Loud talk rough housing running and playing in the aisles throwing things etc., were not the exception to the Rule but appeared to be the Rule. The movie was also a rated but i know there were a lot of children and teens there with no adult supervision. Lets face it the cafes theater is the cheapest baby Sitter on Post. I done to even know where the manager was while All of this was going on. Maybe if cafes changed to $6 a ticket people would be More willing to sit and watch the movie. Done to get me wrong the managers part in this is about one percent 99 percent of the blame goes to the parents who can to seem to teach their children respect. Until that time ill rent the videos and watch them at Home in peace. A Jeffrey g. Wernz Heidelberg Germany pen pals i am 35 years old and work As a child minder.
