Castle who toured the area. The Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk was badly damaged along with oceanfront buildings. Rehoboth Beach officials declared a state of emergency and Castle called in the National guard to help Highway Crews at roadblocks and keep people out of dangerous areas. State route 1, which runs along the Delaware coastline to Ocean City md., was closed because of flooding. Authorities called for voluntary evacuations of Rehoboth Beach Dewey Beach and Low lying areas in Sussex county. In new Jersey heavy surf winds of up to 50 Mph and rain lashed beaches left vulnerable by a costly halloween storm. In North Carolina parts of pea Island and Kitty Hawk on the outer Banks were flooded by Waves. Stretches of the main Road along the outer Banks were under 2 feet of water. A 10-mile stretch of the Road was closed from Rodanthe to Oregon Inlet. Ocean City officials said oceanfront stores were damaged and streets were flooded. They said damage would have been worse had a sea Wall not been constructed a year ago.
