The Blue Chip indicator joined the other averages in record territory thursday thanks to growing optimism about the Economy improved earnings and Low in Terest rates. It s the Dow s turn said Ralph Acampora technical analyst at Prudential securities inc. The Market was on a Roll but the emphasis now is on Blue chips he added. Ron Doran director of institutional trading at . King & associates in Albany n.y., agreed that the Dow was helped by the rotation from High priced Nash a stocks into fairly priced Dow  he said the Dow still has upward potential. I Don t think it s going to be straight up but i look for the Dow reach ing 3700 by the end of the first  for the week the Dow Jones Industrial average which rebounded 1.63 percent or 53.22 Points the previous week surged 3.99 percent or 132.11 Points to an All time High of 3442.14. The 132.11-Point jump was the Dow s third biggest Cvar weekly gain. Among the Broad gauges the new York Stock Exchange composite Index Rose 5.68 to end the week at 247.60 and the Stan Dard & poor s 500 Index climbed 10.15 to 448.93. Advances overwhelmed declines 1,731 612 among the 2,617 issues traded. Weekly big Board volume totalled 1,529,487,013 shares up from 1,381, 800,148 traded a Vick earlier and from 1,151,206,008 in the same week a year ago. Other Market averages also reached new Heights including the Dow transportation which climbed 37.06 Points to 1579.54 for its second straight record close. Stocks closed mixed in heavy trading Fri Day As the Broad  in the face of profit taking following a dramatic two Day rally. But the Dow still managed to Post its second consecutive record close. The Dow jumped 25.40 to 3442.14. But Broad gauges broke a string of four record closes and the Over the counter Market s Index ended a two Day record set Ting Streak. On the nose trading floor for the week Chrysler paced the big Board actives gain ing 1% to 401/4 after after us securities upgraded its rating on the automaker s Stock and raised its 1993 and 1994 earnings estimates following Chrysler s stronger than cup cited 1992 earnings. Ford motor was a big gainer jumping3% to 49% As cyclical or economically sensitive stocks attracted investors attention. Volume of nose listed issues including trades in stocks on regional exchanges and in the Over the counter Market totalled 1,865,438,923 shares compared with 1,692,534,778 traded during the previous week and 1,404,176,188 a year ago. On the american Stock Exchange the Macx Market value Rose 5.50 to 416.58. Advances led declines 475-366 among the 995 issues traded for the week. Wang laboratories led the Macx actives slipping 9-16 to 1 1-16 As investors shifted toward cyclical and away fro technology stocks.
