Jordan s key clutch plays overshadowed the sensational performance of is s Georgia Bottoms and ruined Bot Toms chances of becoming the first Dodds athlete to play on four straight tournament championship teams. Heidelberg s Heidi Gill Sank two free throws to open the overtime period but Bottoms tied the game at 54 with a Brace of her own. Then Jordan successfully executed her steals and baskets. Bottoms came Back with another pair of free throws her 37th and 38th Points of the game and Carolyn Kirsch wrapped up the game with a pair of free throws Bottoms was outstanding throughout scoring 18 of is s halftime 22 Points adding nine More in the third seven in the fourth Quarter including a three Pointer that made it 52-51 to set the stage for Jordan s game tying free throw and All four Raider Points in overtime. She also had eight rebounds and eight steals. But in the end it was More balance for Heidelberg teamwork proving More valuable than one player domination. Heidelberg s big guns Gill Jordan and Kirsch did very Little in the first half. However Veruska Corigliano had a masterpiece first half connecting for 12 Points including a pair of three Point goals. She added another Down Towner in the third Quarter for a 15-Point total Matching Gill s efforts 13 Points coming after intermission. Jordan finished with nine Points. Freshman Laura Schempf came off the Bench and contributed eight Points by halftime Donna s two steals in overtime have to be the big plays for us in the final re View of things Bennett said. But we would t have even been in Contention if Veruska and Laura had t made their valuable contributions. The Lions came out after intermission and broke things wide open by scoring the first 10 Points turning the title game into an Anticlimactic exhibition. Mike Balestreri who starred in Mann Heim s upset of Hanau in Friday s semifinal game sparkled again for the Bison keeping them in Contention throughout the first half with a 15-Point Effort. Balistreri s pinpoint passes found their Mark More o ten than not but his team mates could t find the Basket during the last two quarters after going 13 for 23 inthe first half Heidelberg s defense tight ened and the Bison managed Only two baskets in 13 third Quarter shots and Only 6 for 18 in the last Quarter. Heidelberg meanwhile went 8 for 12in the third period with Pete Dunn connecting for eight Points and Conra Simms for six. Unce hit both of his Field goal attempts and All four free throws inthe final period to wind up with 19 Points a total matched by Dunn. Heidel Berg connected on 10 of 12 free throws Down the stretch. It was a great team Victory Heidel Berg s Shahan said. Rick s three Pointer lit us up but he s been our big Man Al season. I am proud of the Way this team rallied around the Heidelberg cause the past two weeks. We lost our last five con Ference games and were nine Points Backof Ramstein in last week s tournament. We could have folded then and there but the kids would t quit and we won both  Dunn walked off with map laurels for the Lions and was joined on the All tournament team by teammates Unce and Thad Sankey Balestreri and his Mann Heim cohort Adriene Batts Hanau s Cory Whitaker Pitburg s Art Munnlyn and Kaiserslautern s Charles Ford. Friday s late semifinal Heidelberg boys 71, Blob org 59 Heidelberg scored the last six Points in the first half to take a 38-33 halftime Lead and they expanded that advantage by outscoring the Barons 18-11 in the next period. That was not much of a game because the officials would t let us play very much Shahan  it seemed like the Only thing that was happening in the first half was a Parade to the free throw  when they did get to play Heidelberg got 24 Points including four three Point goals from Dunn 19 from Unce and 10from Thad Sankey. Munnlyn paced bit Burg with 17, Scott had 11 and Bell had10. Girls third place Frankfurt 48, Ramstein 40 Sparrow paced the eagles to Victor with 19 Points nine rebounds 4 steals and three assists. Story Andrews added11 Points and Karlowa Adams had six boards and four steals. Harris had 18 Points for Ramstein. Boys third puce Hanau 73, Blob org 71 the panthers beat the Barons for the third time in four games this season but had to withstand a Pitburg comeback bid before finally winning. Hanau led by 10 with 3 48 left but three baskets by David Bell and one by Jason Scott brought the Barons close. Denniz Felder paced Hanau with 28points, Shamar Foster added 21 and Schenne Eze added 16. Bell had 22points for Pitburg Munnlyn finished with 14, Issac Williams added 13 and Scott finished with 10
