A a circus train derailment that killed two passengers occurred shortly after the train Crew made an emergency Stop to look for prob lems investigators said. A wheel on one car of the Ringling Bros and bar num & Bailey train broke into three pieces about 2yi Miles before the derailment thursday investigators said. The train carrying 150 circus employees and 60 Ani Mals had made an emergency Stop about half an hour and five Miles before the wreck National transportation safety Board member Jim Hall said Friday. An ambulance Driver saw the train go by and noticed something amiss Hall said. The Driver relayed a message to the track dispatcher to ask the train s Crew to Stop and Check for a possible Sticky Brake Hall said. Crew members were not looking specifically for dam aged wheels when they made their inspection Hall said. They were looking at the train itself he said. This is certainly an unusual occurrence for a wheel to fall  about 2 /2 Miles Down the track two other witnesses told the safety Board that they saw what appeared to be parts of a damaged wheel Fly from the train. The wheel broke minutes after the inspection Caus ing the 53-car train to derail Hall said.
