Far from an fix As a Veteran of the persian Gulf War i was offended by a Side comment in Hir ing writer s characterization of per Sian Gulf warriors As vets indicate that the writer does not believe such per sons to be actual veterans. Hidden Agenda feared i am amazed and disheartened by the negative responses and anger expressed bythe teaching professionals in the depart ment of defense dependent hiring and assignment of the new equity chief mrs. Muldrew Saunders has created quite a stir of anger and nastiness. It appears that the consensus by Many types in Dodds is that she plans to drag minorities off the streets to teach and reconstruct the educational system to advocate Black and hispanic studies. A great fear abounds that this plan May somehow destroy the very fab Ric of our shake my head in shame and disgust at the Petty stupidity of my colleagues who again Are demonstrating that Subtle form of racism that Many believed had died once and for All. Minorities in America continue to strive and fight for a fair position in polite society and without sufficient role Model ing and positive encouragement for our children that Ole struggle just continues schools currently have a minority student population of around 50 my school that works out to about one minority teacher per 190 students. What could be the possible harm to Al children if the number of minority teachers is in creased to reflect the current population teachers who Bellyache and cry foul when it is suggested that we increase the minority numbers have me convinced that what they fear May reflect a Little Hidde Agenda. This All May be indicative of some bigger problem that we All May need to take note of. Yvonne Dickerson Ramstein a Germany the Best for he Best the cutting of appropriated fund support for recreation facilities had made me realize that the military does not think highly of it self. It seems that someone in Washington sold a set of values to the military which says when interpreted the military do snot deserve to have its recreation programs financed by taxpayers you May ask what made me believe this Isth wrong attitude. It was the simple act of helping a widow and her children pack up after the death of their husband father in saudi Arabia. The stress which military families live every Day will never be Felt in civilian career. This is Why i feel so strongly that All appropriated funds slots that we recut in recreation be reinstated and in Addi Tion a should be added. Thirty years ago professional recreation staff persons were hired to be facility Man agers. Today because of loss of appropriated fund support anyone with a High school education is being hired to fill non appropriated fund positions. Thirty years ago the military hired Young College graduates to be recreation Center directors today in one recreation Center a 66-year old Man is running a recreation Center. The military wonders Why Young soldiers most cases they do a Good Job however they Are no substitute for staff person with professional training. The High Cost of child development centers could be Cut by just paying the manager and an assistant with appropriated funds. Anyone who say the american Public would not stand for this action is full of baloney. What i really Hope to see is that military career persons feel More highly of them selves and realize they deserve the Best recreation program our country can afford. Alfred Illesh Cim Germany " Nunn let Down military 1 am disappointed in sen. Sam Nunn. Have always believed him to be a Strong sup Porter of the military and our rights. No that he had a Chance to serve in a greater capacity he can t understand How someone who is so respected by the Pentagon the White House and the majority of the military can turn Down the offer of defense Secretary. The excuses that he used were ridiculous. He said he could serve the Public More in his present position and did t want to give up his Independence. Obviously he forgot How much Independence the people in the military have Given up. Just because you Don t want to work for a person . Military response to the flooding that happened at the end of 1993 should have received much better coverage than just a letter to the there was some piece of less importance that could have been left out to give the ambassador s letter the coverage it deserved. The Citadel a recent letter concerning Shannon Faulkner s lawsuit against the Citadel for non acceptance based on gender at tacks Faulkner s motives and character based on either false assumptions and or writer overlooked one important Point the Citadel is a state supported school. That Means that the taxes of hard working men and women go into funding that institution. If Faulkner had chosen not to fight the Citadel but had gone on to another school graduated stayed in the state and gotten a Job her taxes would have gone into funding thievery school that denied her Access based on gender. The Citadel would have gladly taken her Money but not allowed her a Cess to an this is one of the Fine traditions the Citadel is trying to uphold then it is time for a change. If the Citadel were completely privately funded then the writer would have made a valid Point. The writer also claims Faulkner shows her True character by omitting All references to gender and therefore misrepresents herself. Had she called herself Amale she would have misrepresented herself but she did not. Her application was accepted until the Citadel found out that she was a female. It seems to Methe Citadel had been misrepresenting it self for a Century and a half by upholding traditions of hypocrisy discrimination and a failure to look to the . Sgt. Nita l.
