Contents of the stars and stripes do not necessarily reflect the official views of. Or endorsement by the . Government the department of defense or the . European commend. The appearance of advertising in this publication including inserts or supplements does not constitute endorsement by the department of defense or the stars and stripes of the products or services in the dark we fully expected that living overseas would give us the Opportunity to learn about and experience Many new customs. But one of these unusual practices is a Little dance i Call the housing shuffle. This whole experience has been so unnerving that id be interested to know if we were caught in a special glitch or if there Are others who have been swept up in this insanity. Here Are a few of the dance Steps a the switcheroo look around. Are you in temporary quarters permanent this May change from one week to the next so done to get too complacent. A the hand Jive what you have to do to get a look at the waiting list for quarters As its never posted. / a the Tongue twister two step trying to figure out just what you re entitled to As the rules Are subject to whom you talk to and will change from Day to Day. A promenade your partner from office to office As you try to get answers. A the freeze two variations of this a one what you do in the housing office waiting room and two what happens to the quarters list every couple of months. A the spin this is what your head does As you frequently find out the last housing manager has been fired and replaced a and the waiting list is being the jump through All those hoops if you Ever expect to get anything done. So now you have a Basic knowledge of How the housing shuffle goes. Believe me we will not soon forget this part of what has otherwise been an enjoyable tour. Blit it s one experience we could have done without. Andrea Jackson Wiesbaden a Germany remember that All military members take an oath to uphold the government and everything it stands for. If you done to want to abide by that oath get out and do something else. I remember when service members were proud to Tell people they were in the military and that they would gladly Lay Down their lives for it. Now if you ask a service member about his or her convictions on the military the response you usually get is a a done to remind me that in a in the in a just curious what the Good sergeant and his wife a response would be to this question. Lets get with the program people and remember that you re Here to do a Job and not on an extended vacation. Walter e. Payne Naples ital Battle is part of Job what happened to the real military where men and women were always ready to go and fight for their country and what they believed in nowadays we have husbands and wives doing interviews in the stars and stripes a hearts sink in Mannheim when tension rises in Gulf a saying How much she is worried about her husband being deployed. Correct me if 1 m wrong but Isnit that part of his Job Togo where he is told and to fight and uphold the Honor of a nation in a in no Way military nor am i an officer. In a just a lowly e-5 in the Navy trying to make ends meet but i do my Job with we regrets and no second thoughts. In a Juite ashamed of the people who were interviewed for this article. It shows me the Type and Caliper of people that Are currently in the military. They May be the smartest and the Best in their class but As military i think would rather have a Bunch of ecologists with me in a War. If these people did no to think about the fact that deployment is a big part of Miti tary life Ana that the possibility of War is always looming in some Little Dank Corner of the world it is High time they thought of leaving the military and found jobs in the civilian world and left the military to the ones who will do the Job. I have no sympathy for these people or any others who joined the military without thinking that they might be sent into a combat zone or put to sea for an extended period of time. If people Back in the states were to read an article like this it would really make them wonder if the men and women who Are in the military Are nothing More than a Bunch of whiners who just wanted to be in the military for the Chance to go overseas and get paid for it. Its not a glamorous Job and it is by no Means the most self rewarding one in the world but keep in mind that it is your Job and you were the one who signed up for s a Day role in your a Day special edition the stars and stripes ran an article which questioned the performance of the Canadian army during the Normandy Campaign. A a. A a. \ a i cannot let that pass without giving your readers a balanced account of the Issue. A a a a a a a the Canadian army was responsible for one of the five a Day beaches and to comment that the canadians had difficult to is to state the obvious a All the beachhead suffered difficulties due to weather and enemy action. To paraphrase Karl von Clausewitz no plan survives Contact with the enemy. That being said history records that canadians were the first troops to land on the beaches and actually reach their a Day objectives. The article then quotes negative evaluations of Canadian operations in Normandy you ignore the fact that the German army concentrated its armed forces in the area it considered to be the greatest threat the British and Canadian front around Caen. The canadians fought several difficult Battles there against the Best forces the germans had in Normandy and won despite heavy casualties. The Canadian record in Normandy is certain As Good As that of other nations which fought there and in Many ways better. It certainly does not warrant the negative article which you published on the 50th anniversary of a period of great sacrifice. A /. A. Up Nicholson Deputy minister veterans affairs Canada by ordering the Choc to disband. He further ordered its members not to meet on or off base not to Send any correspondence by mail electronic Means or direct distribution without prior approval of the Chapel leadership not to form any Type of parallel organization on or off base and not to attempt to rebut the statements Nide by the 86th Wing Chap Tainsh leadership. He stated Security police will be used if necessary to enforce his orders and disciplinary action will be taken against any member violating these orders. The Choc was a group of Catholic men committed to promoting Fellowship among men of a common Faith. Its objective was to promote opportunities for Catholic men to grow in their Faith and to become better husbands fathers and leaders within their Community. The actions taken by the senior leadership of the 86th Wing chaplains Are both disgraceful and probably unconstitutional. I believe a review of the first amendment is in order and if the leadership of the 86th Wing chaplains believes the Choc has done something illegal they should prefer charges. Staft sol John p. Walsh Kapaun As Germany chaplains tirade on nov. 4 i and approximately 15 other men of an organization called Catholic men of the Chapel Choc gathered for our monthly meeting at Ramstein Abs Northside Chapel. I was surprised when i arrived to find an additional 30 or so people both men and women gathered for our meeting. I was further surprised when the senior leadership of the 86th Wing chaplains preempted our meeting in order to make a. Statement. With notebook in hand i listened attentively As members of the Choc were subjected to a verbal barrage of misrepresentations distortions and outright lies regarding the intentions and activities of the Choc by two senior air Force officers selected to serve our Community As military chaplains. As the 55-minute attack continued i was certain there must be an extraordinary misunderstanding and an Opportunity would be Given to respond to the outrageous statements and charges. A unfortunately instead of allowing Choc members an Opportunity to defend themselves against these outrageous statements and charges the 86th Wing senior chaplain concluded his statement writer s stereotypes in response to a one sided Story a nov. 3the writer states that adults a need to break Down the Wall of his letter sounds like he does some stereotyping of his own. No. 1 a baggy pants starter jackets bandannas and baseball Caps worn backward Are typically worn by he fails to mention that kids of every nationality Are wearing the outfits he describes. Its called a clothing trend or fad. No. 2 a wearing Rock group attire such ast shirts and sweat shirts Are associated with a specific group in the . Because of their drug by including this vague generality in his letter he loses any sympathy he May have generated. Nowhere did the article he refers to a a a single out african americans As the Only group that belongs to gangs. Its the writers own Assumption that the banned clothing is Only Quot worn typically by african americans that leads him to this conclusion. Gang members come in All shapes and sizes both male and female. In conclusion i would just like to state that the Walls of stereotypes will never be torn Down by people such As the writer who keeps perpetuating them tech. Sgt. Roger l.
