When Oakland buried Minnesota in the super bowl last january it climaxed a Long hard climb up the pro football Moun Tain. Now that the raiders Are on top they plan to stay there for awhile. And who is to say they wont the most important thing now is that we Don t do anything different or anything less than we Ever have done said Raider coach John Madden whose club was 13-1 last season and has the Best record of any franchise in professional football since 1963. If anything we will work a Little harder the super bowl is something that we talked about for years and always wanted to reach said Madden. N new coach Rick Boeglin was planning on building his Hahn football team around the running of diminutive speedster Dave Lyman but the Hawk senior decided to go to the states to live just before practice began. Tilings did t look too Good at that Point but As they say every Cloud has a Silver lining and Boeglin got a couple of surprises As pre game drills continued. Newcomer Bill Yates in from California and John Coxe took up the Slack created by Lyman s de parture. The Spain teams Don t make their debut until next week. Even without the Spain Competition there will be 19 games on the Agenda. So that Means we get into the full swing of picking the winners. Bonn has been the big team on the volleyball front. The crusaders have never been beaten since the sport was inaugurated into the Dodd eur program. Bonn takes a 33 game winning skein that includes two straight Benelux championships into a Home opener against is Hahn and  volleyball championships were won by Heidelberg in the Germany class a com petition Kar Mursel in Turkey Naples in Italy Berlin in the Germany class a Torrejon in Spain and London in the  Torrejon has dropped Only one match in two years. Speaking of Cross country 71 harriers parti rated in Kaiserslautern s All Comers Jamboree last saturday. Coaches Mike Allen of Mannheim zweibrilcken1 s Fred Clark Baum older s Randy Tomkins and Host Wayne Sabin sent their boys and girls through a full scale dress rehearsal for this week s season openers. In the boys open division a town s Bob Engel edged teammate Mark Burdan by one second to set a record Over the new difficult 4.4-mile local course in 27 05. Mary Bradach of Baum older set the girls record Over their 2.2-mile course with a time of 17.30, while a town s Timothy Davis took Novice division honors with a time of 29 08. Or the past two years Baum older s Bill Floyd has highlighted the Cross county action compiling an undefeated skein that includes two Germany regional titles and a Victory in the european invitational at Brussels that capped the 1976 Competition. Frank Furt s Kristan Dinges won the Germany girls title. Frankfurt won both the girls and boys class a title while Floyd led the bucs to the Germany class b Crown and Hanau took the girls championship. London continued to dominate the  Cross country action. Rex Ellington s harriers racked up their seventh straight boys title and Woodbridge s girls prevailed. Wood Bridge s George Collier and London s Donna Smith captured individual laurels. Italy championships went to Aviano and Naples As the saints Jerome Hunter and Liv Orno s Linda Branch showed their heels to the rest of the Field Zaragoza and Torrejon triumphed in Spain behind the running of James Reed and Liz Trevino and Ankara and in Ciurlik took the respective Turkey crowns. Ankara s Lori Stallings and Izmir s Don car rothers were the individual champions. Although Many of the performers have graduated the coaches report that they expect Competition to be keen again especially As volleyball continues to improve on All fronts. Prep Pickin s wants to wish All competitors teams and individuals alike the Best of everything in their athletic endeavours. You never really know what the feeling is like to win that super bowl until you do it. Once you be won it and enjoyed that Spe Cial feeling you never want to lose it. Never so Oakland will try to make it two straight with the same cast that went All the Way last year. The quarterback is nil passing Cham Pion Ken Stabler who has moved his team to acc West titles in each of his four years As a starter. The raiders won by four games last year and look Strong enough to match that margin this time around. Denver finished second a year ago with san Diego third. Look for those two teams to reverse positions this time around. The chargers have added some Bright new Talent in quarterback James Harris and tight end Bob Klein from los Angeles and flanker Johnny Rodgers the sex leis Man trophy Winner who returned from Canada. Running backs Rickey Young and Don Woods and wide receiver Charlie Joiner add to the Charger offence and Coy Bacon Heads the defense. Denver is coming off its most successful season and new coach red Miller Hopes the Progress can continue with a new Quarter Back. Craig Morton acquired from the new York giants. The Bronco offence also includes Otis Armstrong who won the nil Rushing Crown with 1,407 Yards in 1974 and had 1, 008 and 39 pass receptions last year. Miller is expected to employ the popular 3-4 defensive with Lyle Alzado and Randy Gran Dishar the key men.
