Only those entering the services after the legislation is signed into Law would be affected. The Senate also is considering legislation to change future retirement benefits but that chamber s armed services committee has not yet sent a Bill to the Senate floor. Differing House and Senate Bills would have to be reconciled by a conference com Mittee. The current system provides that a per son who has been in the service for 20 years can retire and receive half his or her highest base pay averaged Over a three year period. The pension increases by 2.5 percent for each additional year of service up to a maximum of 75 percent for 30 years.
