Reuschel is 10-2 against his former teammates but he insists he does t try harder against the cubs. He was traded by Chicago in 1981 and after a second stint with the cubs released in 1984. Jimmy Jones pitched a six hitter and Tony Gwynn had three hits and the tie breaking rib As the padres ended Pittsburgh s nine game winning Streak with a 6-2 Victory in the opener. Andy Van Slyke and Barry Bonds homered in the second game and Fisher 6-6, allowed seven hits in seven innings As the pirates won for the 10th time in 11 games and closed to within 1 h games of National league East leading new York. With the padres leading 3-2, Bonds hit his 18th Homer of the season to Start the Pittsburgh third As the first seven pirates batters in the inning reached base against Andy Hawkins 9-8. . Reynolds singled and Sid Bream walked with the bases loaded to Force in a run before Ortiz lined a two run single off reliever Greg Booker making it 7-3. Van Slyke who went 3-for-4, hit his 15th Homer in the fourth and Ortiz hit a sacrifice Fly in the fifth. Mike Laga Ozzie Smith and Terry Pendleton drove in a run apiece for St. Louis which snapped the Dodg ers six game winning Streak despite scoring three runs or less for the 12th consecutive game. Deleon became the first cardinals Pitcher to win six games raising his record to 6-7. Todd Worrell got the last four outs three of them strikeouts for his 17th save his first since june 8. Hough walked one and struck out six. The game was delayed for 1 hour and 47 minutes in the fourth with the rang ers batting. There was another delay of 26 minutes in the Bottom of the ninth. Mariners 9, tigers 6 Seattle Steve Balboni and Dave Valle each homered and drove in three runs to Lead Seattle Over Detroit. Balboni s two run Homer his ninth put Seattle ahead 7-6 in the seventh in Ning against Jack Morris 7-11. Henry Cotto homered and Mickey Brantley had a sacrifice Fly in the eighth. The tigers scored four times in the seventh for a 6-5 Lead. Five consecutive hits chased starter Mark Langston and tied the score. Luis Salazar s rib single off Mike Jackson put Detroit ahead. Mulliniks hit his ninth Homer of the season against Bryan Harvey 4-3. It was the first Homer allowed by the Rookie reliever in 54% major league innings. Henke 1-1, went the final 1 i innings. He won his first decision since sept. 1, 1986, a Span in which he lost nine Deci Sions but got 55 saves. California scored three times in the seventh for a tie at 6. Dick Schofield s Lead off single finished starter Mike Fla Nagan and reliever Duane Ward allowed consecutive singles to Bob Boone and Jack Howell. A wild pitch allowed Scho Field to score and Devon White hit Atwo run single. The Angels played the game under protest after Toronto s Jesse Barfield apparently replaced Rick Leach to Start the Bottom of the eighth.
