New York City spends thousands of dollars every year to remove Graffiti from its subway cars and Public buildings. In the City s trendy Soho galleries meanwhile Graffiti style paintings command High prices. Consider the Story of Harald Naegeli. He found the Bare Walls of supermarkets underpasses and parking garages in Zurich Switzerland unforgiven ably Dull. For two years those Gray Walls were his canvases As he created colourful Graceful line figures with Spray paint. Some property owners who found Naegeli s work on their Walls wanted him to sign it. Others however wanted the artist punished. Eventually Naegeli was arrested. Though Art critics spoke in his favor he was fined heavily and sentenced to a year in prison. He fled the country and now is an Art teacher in Wiesbaden West Germany. The examples on these pages were photographed in several towns in Southern France. Created with stencils and Spray cans they show both technical and artistic skill. The artists also demonstrated restraint for not one such painting appeared on the Beautiful medieval buildings of the Region.
