A a Reader having problems with Apo mail the mail system upsets me a lot. I have three Magazine subscriptions two of them Are regular magazines and the other is a professional one. The regular magazines ate a Good housekeeping a which we did no to receive in october and february and a journal a which we did not receive in january and february. Those magazines received have been torn up the front cover As Well As the first couple of pages. Appal it Nelty they had been read. This i can Tell because in new magazines the pages will stick together. The professional Magazine comes in a plastic cover so no problem. A. A. ,. A a. A personal letter sent to me on dec. I was received feb. 21. Credit statements Are received late or not received at All. And they Are mailed to us More than 20 Days before the due Date. Even Bills sent to the United states Are mailed 10 to 12 Days before the due Date arid yet we still receive reminders and late fees. This is affecting our credit. We receive mail at our Box number that is not ours and it has the other persons Correct address. Mail received with our Correct address is sent to someone else and even to the directory assistance a package received feb. 23 was broken and the order missing. At this Point we my husband and i talked to the person in the mail room. His response was that there is nothing he could do that we Are not the Only ones with complaints i understand the distance and the Type of trip the mail must take to reach Apos. But these Are serious problems. We Are talking about our credit. Something should be done and soon. A Miriam Martinez Fried Berg West Germany editors note a by of Tyler postal service analyst . Army postal group Europe replies the problems outlined in the writers letter Are common to Many of our customers who receive magazines from conus Continental United states. A unfortunately All publishers do not Send their magazines in a plastic wrap. Magazines that Are not prepared Well by the publishers Are often damaged in Tran sit. If the Magazine is at the top of the bundle or Loose in a sack it is subject to constant shifting causing Tom and wrinkled pages and often separation of the mailing Label. Publishers especially those who do not pack and Label Well will usually replace missing issues if Yoti write to them within a few months after the Date of the missing late receipt of credit payments and statements f recommend you write your creditors to inform them that the transit time for first class mail from the United states to army Post offices in Europe is seven to 10 Days and that first class mail bound for the United states needs about the same amount of time to reach its final destination. Perhaps they Wilt consider Early Billing and or late receipt of payments without penalty. We in the military postal service do care and most military postal clerks Are conscientious about providing excellent service to their postal customers. Is Martinez and other readers of the stars and stripes Are advised that personnel in the unit null room however Are not postal clerks. Postal clerks at the Apo will assist in making claims for insured mail. Also we Hare in each Apo lobby customer service complaint forms which Are responded to in a professional manner. Dissent mail is a recognized problem. We and the United states postal service Are trying to fix this through continued Quality control checks. The poor transit times for mall described by the writer Are not average but Are becoming More frequent. Our average for first class letter mail is 82 percent reaching its destination Apo in seven Days. Pal parcel air lift takes a few Days longer than letter mail however we do not keep statistics and have not developed a Standard on pal mail. We do not have a statistical analysis on Sam space available mail either but we have established a Standard of 17 to 18 Days. Surface mail can Jake up to five weeks. If we can be of further assistance please Contact us at ets 379-7811/6364 or write to commander us. Army postal group Europe attn Teupe Page Ops Apo 09186. Pictures of .
