Letters to the editor pcs delay cruel. The air forces policy of delaying August pcs permanent change of station moves until september is cruel and cold hearted. Let me recount what has happened to us this past week. Originally we had an. Aug. 7 port Call but on july 18 we were told that All moves would be delayed until september. The next Day we were told we would be moving because our orders were financed by next years budget. Then on july/22 personnel told us no one would move in August because a it be fair to those financed by this years budget. To traffic management office has shipped our car and household goods already so i can to understand How the air Force is saving Money by making us stay an extra month and suffer. A weave Appl Tedfor a hardship Case but were turned Down by the local personnel office. Apparently additional unexpected rental car Cost for a month cancelled vacation plans with our families that we Haven to seen in Over three years our son having to enter school late and living with just the Bare essentials for an extra month do not constitute a hardship Case. What does i believe that this delay in our move is cruel and unnecessary punishment handed out to innocent victims. The mental anguish my family has suffered this past week is indescribable. I just wonder if anyone really cares. A Deborah j. Murray Raf Chicksands England still marching along i was rather surprised and chagrined to see your announcement of the demise of the sunny Wei Brincken Coyote Volks marching club in a recent Volks marching Section. The Wei Brincken military Community is sorry to bid a Zauf Wieder Seheng to Wei Brincken a but the army Community at Kreuzberg remains to support a viable Volks marching organization As Well As an Active ski club. Please done to count us out a we Are still in there pitching. A Frank t. Rape and incest arguments Are usually the first to be mentioned by the Choice movement. Only 2 percent of All abortions Are performed for these two reasons. The other 98 percent of abortions Are done for social or economic reasons. These otherwise healthy unborn children take a Back scat to the almighty Dollar. What should be next perhaps the handicapped or the elderly after All Are they not draining society a resources Many wealthy and influential liberals would have you believe they Are concerned for the rights of All women Rich or poor. They claim the poor should be entitled to Safe and Legal abortions just As the wealthy Are. After looking through much of the smoke screen you will find that it is much cheaper to spend a few Hundred dollars to pay for poor women to have an abortion Han it would be to provide social services later. Murder is not the answer. Abortions today whether we admit it or not have become a form of uncivilized birth control. There Are More than 1.5 million abortions performed every year in the United states. One third of these abortions Are performed b0\,women who have already had one in the past. These statistics do indeed prove that our society accepts abortion As a form of birth control. A sgt. 1st class Michael j. One May ask Why with All of the great places to see in Germany would we want to keep returning to Garmisch besides the natural Beauty and All the activities in Garmisch the number one reason that we continue to return there for our family vacations is the outstanding child care Given at the child development Center cd. We feel very confident that when we leave our children there they Are in Good hands. Our hats Are off to the staff and our recommendation to All of those who have Little ones. However during our last visit we were very troubled to find out that the cd in Garmisch is to close oct. 1. Apparently there is More to this than just another closure Rumor since the staff has received if notices. This would be a terrible loss the service they Are providing truly does epitomize the title of a morale welfare and for Many families this is the Only occasion for the parents to leave children in the hands of Quality care allowing the parents to gain some much needed ramp a. Yes arc armed forces recreation Center has several kids programs however none provides the flexibility of partial daily or partial weekly care. The department of defense has Long recognized the value of these recreation centers for the morale of the forces. Lets continue to maintain that focus during these times of troubling cuts. At least keep open the cd As Long As we have arc in Garmisch. A maj. Jack j. Nettis or. Vaihinger Germany Slop the bullfighting i am writing in reference to the recent cover Story on bullfighting in the sunday Magazine. 1 am grateful that the Story covered both the pros and cons of the sport of bullfighting but it failed to accurately portray the cruelty involved. Two years ago i took a vacation in Spain. Eager to see something cultural i thought a bullfight would be perfect a it was highly recommended by the tour guide. Thinking i was in for something glamorous i was sickened by the inhumanity and Gore. There was nothing glamorous about watching several of gods creatures terrorized tortured and bled to death just for entertainment. When i make these observations i keep in mind that i come from a different culture with its own traditions. Over a period of time traditions change to reflect new lifestyles and values. Bullfighting dating Back to the Middle Ages has run its course As a tradition. It is a possibility that the tourist Trade helps keep this practice alive. I would like to urge the stars and stripes readers to see the Beautiful things Spain has to offer but spare yourself the carnage of a bullfight. If the tourists Stop going it May bolster the movement within Spain to put an end to this tragedy. A staff sgt. William j. Schwoebell Bamberg German Plain talk on weight lets put this Issue of weight into its proper perspective. Yes being overweight in the military can put certain individuals at a disadvantage. If a persons Job requires quite a bit of physical activity then being overweight might temporarily impair his her ability to do the Job. I say a a temporarily because if the Job is physically demanding the weight can probably be worked off in time. And yes being overweight can cause certain health problems most of which occur later in life. But being overweight should not be a determining Factor in deciding a persons future. The military should not be allowed to discriminate against someone because of weight. Airmen sailors and soldiers can still work on equipment launch jets gather data and intelligence and productively serve their country regardless of their weight. If a particular Job exists that requires a weight Standard such As that of a fighter Pilot then so be it. However a flight line mechanics ability to turn a wrench is not governed by the size of his her Waistline. Now lets talk about weight As it pertains to the image we show to our civilian counterparts and foreign friends. If that image is that crucial in foreign and Domestic affairs then somebody had better advise a Good portion of our esteemed Congress that they need to enrol themselves in the weight control program. Wake up people. We re the defenders of our country. Its a country that we love enough to make several sacrifices for. Why Are we self imposing very discriminating needless and damaging military standards a staff sgt Michael s.
