This one is All the More disappointing because it starts out full of Promise and potential that is never realized by director Eric red. It opens with criminal psychologist Bill Crushan Jerf Fahey slowly losing Faith in himself because of his inability to connect with his psychotic patients. While cruising Down the Highway one Day he is involved in a horrific Accident lovingly photographed in lurid detail and loses an Arm. Upon Awakening he finds that a new Arm has been miraculously grafted onto his body Courtesy of seeming Angel of mercy or. Webb Lindsay Duncan. But what she neglects to Tell him is that the Arm belonged to a condemned murderer who gleefully killed 20 people. He comes to know this gradually. First its mood swings. Then the Arm starts doing Little things against his will a like Back handing his son and trying to choke his wife Kim Delaney. Then he starts getting flashbacks of the murderer committing his heinous acts. As he delves further into the mystery he is led to another Arm transplant patient a tortured artist Brad Dourif who is putting his own gruesome flashbacks on Canvas. Soon enough the two of them linkup with the leg Man Peter Mumin Kand these three disparate souls find themselves commiserating in a bizarre barroom scene in which Fahey ponders the nature of evil. A does it reside in the skin a he intones solemnly. A does the Arm have a soul a it eventually leads to your All too Typ ical secret government medical plot gone awry which Crushan uncovers in All its Crimson detail in the obligatory Gore spattered and gratuitous Climax. To say any More would give away what Little suspense there is. I had the plot unravelled at least a half hour before director red lets it ooze out on screen. The whole Endeavor just never makes sense which is Why red was there Ever a More aptly named director for a horror film goes for the Ketchup bags when things get too nonsensical for words. The big mystery is Why anyone wants to do these experiments at All. There is no goal espoused. Also left unsaid is How the medical personnel charged with executing the murderers death sentence can keep their Experiment a secret from All the Legal types who get involved in such things. The performances Are mundane except for Dourif a Veteran of Many a Grade horror films the Demon in exorcist Iii and the voice of Chucky the doll in the child a play movies among other who goes Over the top in his usual grand style. As a leading Man Fahey is Flat and colourless and there is no one in the cast other than Dourif to support him. The most grounded character in the film is Fahey a wife but Delaney Isnit Given enough screen time to make a difference. Limbs with a life of their own is not a novel movie concept.
