Like other americans 1 have read the stories concerning the shootings in Texas the shooting murder of the Young girl for her earrings and most recently the Story of a disgruntled Battery Plant worker who shot and killed her Boss and wounded three other people. Like other concerned americans i have great sorrow for the victims and their families and very Strong feelings about what should happen to people who commit such crimes especially those who killed the teen age girl for her jewelry. My solution however is not toward the disarmament of the general Public but rather the arming of the general Public through Laws such As the concealed carry Law enacted in Florida. This Law is now being copied for proposed or pending legislation in four other states Idaho Mississippi Montana and Oregon. Had the people of Texas been armed with concealed weapons the death toll in Killeen might have been far less. People would have been Able to protect themselves. Lets see the other Side of the Coin. Americans have a constitutional right to defend themselves. You can quit being a victim by passing tougher penalties for crimes and ensuring yourself of your right to defend yourself and your family by ensuring passage of concealed carry Laws. Or you can watch your freedoms be taken away by doing nothing. Being complacent is the surest Way of guaranteeing that America will get the kind of government and Laws it deserves. A Russell l. Bass Erlanger German disappearing habitat being an avid Hunter and sportswoman i feel i have to respond to a recent letter. Natural predators do prey on the old sick and weak. to a decline in the habitat of such natural predators As the Mountain lion and the Wolf there Arentt enough natural predators to effectively control the population of Deer Elk and other Large game animals. How Many Meadows have you volunteered your time to seed in order to produce a better Quality food Supply for wildlife How Many Wood Duck houses have you helped build and then placed out because of disappearing wildlife habitat the disappearance of wildlife habitat is the no. 1 contributing Factor to the decline in wildlife population by the Way. What of yourself have you contributed to the preservation and conservation of our worlds wildlife a sgt. Naomi Cahoon Khobiar saudi Arabi Hunters As protectors i see that the Quot Antis Quot have now brought their Campaign against Hunting to the letters pages of the stars and stripes. This is to convince non Hunters that we Are a driving wildlife to extinction Quot or that it is a cruel activity. Nothing could he further from the truth. Hunting is an emotional Issue and Hunting opponents will never be convinced that what Hunters do is tight lint separate emotionalism Toni reality and consider the facts. First of All. Wildlife management is an Clicc tic tool in sustaining wildlife species. Yes Hunters and fishermen have a vested interest in sustaining populations of wildlife. We spend millions of dollars per year in excise taxes and License fees to reap some of the Benefit of what we sow. Is it cruel to Harvest some of the animals i done to think so. It is certainly no Krueler than what takes place in a slaughterhouse. At least Hunters actually see the effect of what we do. When you pick up your vacuum wrapped meat package at the store you have no idea of what that animal went through. We Are not Quot blasting wildlife to bits or depleting Gene pools. Regulated Hunting with set bag limits by wildlife managers is no danger to any species. I will state and so will any decent Hunter that anyone who Hunts in an unethical manner exceeds his or her bag limit or is a Quot Slob Hunter a deserves whatever punishment he or she gets. 1 will not apologize for participating in a activity that i love and want to protect. Hunters Are aware of the emotion Al Well orchestrated campaigns against them and we Are fighting Back. A master sgt. Letters to the editor paying for dental care i am writing in response to a recent readers action line article about limited family dental care. Part of the reply was the air Force encourages use of the dependent dental program especially for those about to go overseas. I have my own views on the dependent dental program. To me it is simply another useless program that is used by the military to promote recruiting and re enlistment benefits in their advertising. Even my last dentist had to laugh about this so called Benefit. The last time 1 was stationed in the states was Over three years ago so there is a slight Chance that it May have changed since then but 1 remember the Cost was about $4.50 for one dependent and almost $9 for two or More dependents each month. For this your dependents received two Check each per year and one a Ray every three years. 1 believe it even provided for fillings. What it does not provide for is Root canals braces tooth extraction or the Many other dental procedures that can drive a family into the poorhouse. It seems to me the average military member has been hoodwinked again by another Congress backed Benefit that was pushed upon us. I can afford the preventive dental care. Its the major work i need a program for. Most major companies provide decent care Why can to the military 1 am willing to pay for higher premiums to get the needed coverage. My advice to those returning to the states soon is to seek private insurance it will Cost More but May end up saving you thousands of dollars. In a speaking from experience. Most of us pay High insurance costs on cars but have no real coverage on the ones we love. Which do you care More about a tech. Sgt. Chris Heim Hillesheim Germany wrong eligibility criteria i read your article about the non command sponsored parents having to pay tuition fees. I am a teacher in the Dodds system and do not find any difficulty with your article. However i know of students from puerto Rico and Liberia who Are living with their Brothers who Are in the . Army. Evidently it is extremely easy for a . Soldier to just claim that their brother or sister is their dependent. Then they can come overseas and live with their brother or sister and attend Dodds schools free. Here Are individuals who can attend school free have free medical care Exchange privileges commissary privileges etc., while the legitimate no command sponsored children of military personnel must pay. I believe that there Are a lot of children going to Dodds schools who be allowed to attend. I do not know what the policy is that allows children with mothers and fathers to Transfer their dependency to a brother sister aunt or Uncle but i think it is wrong and should be changed. 1 object to this As a taxpayer. It costs about a year for each of these children. Not Alt of these children Are problems but quite a few Are because they Are from troubled Homes. English is their second language in Many eases which Calls for additional help and time from teachers a William b. Mccloskeyjr. Lla Nuu German the chop hurts indians let me explain to you the complaint that native americans have about the a Tomahawk to paraphrase our new supreme court Justice Clarence Thomas a it perpetuates the worst stereotypes of native americans. If we were talking about the Atlanta a a slaves who Blacken their faces and rattle chains they Wear i am sure that a lot More of the responses on the letters Page would have been to favor of the native americans. I am also sure that the a act would have something to say about it. Obviously no one objects to being a a Cowboy Quot because the myths of the wild West have turned them into larger than life heroes.
