A i never wanted this Book to be identified As this statement about the Black Middle class a Pinckney said in a recent interview at his publishers office in new York. A i think too often people have read novels by Black authors looking to see who has the True interpretation and who is defining the Black experience. And if someone wrote about the Black Middle class it was seen As being at the expense of Blacks in another class. I done to want to come off like a Black Neo con in the Book but at the same time in a not a cultural militant. I done to believe in Black agreement. I done to think i have  it seems an unavoidable and mixed Blessing that certain authors by dint of their backgrounds become without Effort or intent symbols voices of their generations or their people. They May be hailed As Brilliant writers but whether they Are Gay Black Young or hispanic they Are also read As windows onto other worlds.
