The exercise is scheduled May 6 to 20 throughout the Central and Western Mediterranean. The standing naval Force Mediterranean is expected to take part according to Royal air Force so Leader John Jeffery a spokesman in Naples Italy at the Headquarters of Allied forces Southern Europe. Eight ships Are expected to comprise the Force. Jeffery said the amphibious Landing exercise on the italian Mainland will include greek italian and . Forces. Adm. Mike Boorda of South a commander will command the exercise. Dragon Hammer 92 will also feature for the first time in an exercise the deployment of a dutch missile unit from natos Central Region. The missile unit with its Patriot and Hawk missiles will deploy to Comiso air station on the italian Island of Sicily Jeffery said. But those anti aircraft missile batteries will not carry charges the dutch defense ministry said Friday. The batteries will be shipped wednesday from nato bases in Germany and will return shortly after the exercise the spokesman said. Earlier italian newspapers reported that the patriots would arrive before , sanctions against Libya took effect last week.
