I said a you know Janet it is going to be Tough because it is hard to get any movie made in this business but i am going to gel this picture luckily she Felt i was professionally sincere and personally the film is the True Story of a flier who was killed in an f-16 crash that the air Force blamed on Pilot error. The Many a wife refused to accept those find Laura darn Ings and cleared her husband s name after taking the f-16?Ts manufacturer general dynamics to court. Little did Tisch know How difficult it would be to bring Al Coburn to the screen. After Burn was originally slated to be a feature film for Disney and Tisch was in pre production when the persian Gulf War erupted. Disney Felt the timing was inappropriate to make the movie and pulled the plug. Hob quickly picked up the project. A one of the biggest obstacles for me was when the project was at Disney it was budgeted at about $14 million a Tisch said. A a Hob said they wanted to make the movie but i would have less than $5 million to make it. It was exactly the same movie but it All worked neither the air Force nor general dynamics Lent its cooperation. A it is frustrating Quot Tisch said. Quot but at the same Lime knowing that the government and general dynamics Don t want this movie made makes me even More passionate. And makes it even More rewarding to me personally to know that i pulled it so making after Burn became a tremendous Challenge for the filmmakers. Oven on a big screen you can to Tell. It was brilliantly done by the special effects people. We even investigated the possibility of getting an f-16 from some other foreign country Ami the air Force got wind of that. Quot we had to he extremely imaginative. There Are Many ways to solve the problems. They can be costly and aggravating but they Are difficulties that can be it was up to production designer Donald Harris to solve most of the problems including building an f-16. Harris was Able to find the first 20 feet of an f-16, including the cockpit from a los Angeles company called producers air Force which supplies filmmakers with mock ups of different air planes. A what we added was the difficult part the Hist 30 feet of the aircraft which included the Landing gear and the Tail Quot he said. A the air planes have been around for quite some time and we did some research around the country looking for parts of the air plane that might exist to facilitate constructing the last 30 feet of the in Texas they found the Landing gear which he said a is a very difficult part of the plane to reproduce. It had been in an accident.Stone shooting for another movie on Vietnam Warby Jean Michel comte the associated press Oliver Stone whose films examining american involvement in the Vietnam War have become cinematic institutions says he will make another one about that wrenching conflict.
