Richard Gephardt s last minute bid for a seventh term and sent farm activist Wayne cryts into a rematch with Republican rep. Bill Emerson. Michigan republicans choosing Between two millionaire sex congressmen picked Jim Dunn to Chal Lenge Liberal democratic sen. Donald Riegle. Kansas had one congressional incumbent facing a Challenge gop rep. Jan Meyers who tallied 85 percent of the 3rd District vote against Charles b. Bat Masterson a retired school administrator. The Detroit vote marked the third time in 12 years that Young who is expected to seek re election next year has seen his plan to boost the local Economy by building hotel casinos set Back at the polls. With 73 percent of precincts reporting a gambling ban placed on the ballot by his opponents was winning by 45,632 votes or 62 percent to 28,421 votes or 38 percent. This is sending a message to the administration that we Are the ones in charge Here not he said the Rev. Keith Butler of the Alliance against Casino Gam bling. Gephardt who abandoned his bid for the presiden tial nomination just in time to file for re election piled up 82 percent of the vote against three Little known democrats. He will face Thor Hearne a former Educa Tion department official who won the gop primary. Cryts who became a Folk hero in 1981 when he took his family s soybeans from a padlocked bankrupt Grain elevator also swamped three opponents and said he would waste no time opening his Campaign against Emerson who narrowly beat him in 1986. With 48 percent of the precincts reporting Dunn had 135,765 votes or 61 percent to Huber s 87,672 votes or 39 percent. Huber who was in Congress in 1973-74, and Dunn who served from 1981-82, each spent More than $200,000 of their own Money. Riegle who has not lost an election in 22 years has $4 million in Campaign funds for the fall. Dunn 44, who ran unsuccessfully for a Senate nomination 1984, criticized his More conservative oppo nent in a radio interview last week for maintaining that aids was god s punishment of homosexuals and drug users. I Don t know whether it s the Wrath of god but if it in t it should be Huber said when asked about Dunn s remarks. Fla. Lawmaker target of probes in illegal funds switch paper says Washington a investigators probing alleged Pentagon procurement fraud Are investigating whether three de sense Industry executives illegally funnelled Money from the Uniss corp. The Post said Federal agents Are investigating whether the three executives diverted Uniss corp. Funds to Chappell and others influential in defense contracting through armies inc. Operating expenses and Purchase orders. Records from Ait Otec s Palatka fla., Plant were seized in a june 14 raid by Federal agents. The Post said the subjects of the probe were William w. Roberts a retired uni sys executive William m. Galvin a de sense procurement consultant and Charles f. Gardner former vice presi Dent of the Uniss great neck n.y., Plant. Roberts and Galvin formed Arm Tec in 1986. Investigators have subpoenaed financial records of an Ocala fla., health club in which Chappell once had an interest. Chappell could not be reached for Bill Chappell comment tuesday night but he told the newspaper he is not a target of the investigation and that he has conducted him self in an ethical manner. I think it is inappropriate for me to comment on any aspect of this ongoing investigation and i Hope the investigation will go Forward in the most fair expeditious manner Chappell told the Post. Chappell and other congressmen have been mentioned earlier As subjects of investigative interest for Henry Hudson . Attorney for Northern Virgnia who is in charge of the investigation. Hudson told congressional leaders that no members of Congress were tar gets of the defense probe according to congressional sources. Documents unsealed in a new York court last month showed that investigators looking into the procurement scan dal were examining whether private consultants and others extorted Campaign contributions from companies. The papers also indicated investigators were looking into whether defense Industry officials consultants and others bribed fed eral officials involved in authorizing or appropriating defense contracts. Child care sex offender gets 47 years Newark . A a woman convicted of 115 sex crimes against Chil Dren under her supervision in a Day care Center was sentenced tuesday to 47 years in prison. Superior court judge William f. Harth imposed the sentence on Margaret Kelly Michaels after a three hour hearing in which she proclaimed her inno Cence. She must serve 14 years before she will be eligible for parole. Michaels 26, of Pittsburgh was convicted april 16 on 115 counts of sexually abusing 19 preschool children and endangering the welfare of a 20th while they were in her care at the now closed wee care Day Nursery in Maplewood from october 1984 to april 1985. Prosecutors said during the trial that Michaels performed sexual acts on the children forced them to perform sexual acts on her and engaged in nude sex play with them. Defense attorney Harvey Meltzer said before the sentencing he would Appeal whatever sentence his client received. Jackson s half brother charged in murder plot Greenville . A a state grand jury tuesday indicted Noah Robinson the half brother of Jesse Jackson on charges of conspiracy obstruction of Justice and intimidation of a witness in a plot to kill a murder witness. The indictments were returned nearly two months after Robinson and a former employee Jake h. Oliver were arrested. Oliver also was indicted. Robinson said in a statement released tuesday that the government has been ordered to return part of $21,000 in Cash seized in june from his Chicago apart ment and offices. He described the seizure As being part of a massive dirty tricks Campaign against him by the government. These people will never break my spirit or my resolve to oppose and expose their dirty tricks he said. Although Robinson and Jackson share relatives in Greenville the former democratic presidential hopeful has said he has had no recent Contact with his half brother. A trial Date has not been set. Robinson and Oliver were charged in june in a plot to kill Janice Rosemond. Rosemond testified last fall before a Chicago grand jury which was inquiring into the activities of Chi Cago s al run Street gang. Rosemond reportedly told the grand jury that she saw the fatal shooting of Leroy Hambene Barber. Within weeks of her testimony Rosemond was at tacked in her Greenville apartment. She survived five Stab wounds. Shortly after the stabbing police issued an arrest warrant charging Freddie Elwood Sweeney who once worked As a janitor in one of Robinson s companies with assault and Battery with intent to kill. Robinson maintains he had nothing to do with bar Ber s death or Rosemond s stabbing and said he is the victim of a massive government sponsored conspiracy. Robinson said the seizure of $21,000 from his apart ments and offices was a classic Case of abuse of governmental  following Robinson s arrest in Greenville authorities searched Robinson s apartment and offices and confiscated the Cash and various corporate records. The internal Revenue service subsequently filed a $31,000 Lien against the Cash and $12,000 in one of Robinson s Bank accounts. A judge last wednesday found that the Sei de Cash and Money from the Bank account satisfied the irs s claim and ordered that the remaining $2,000 should he returned. In the order the judge said the government does not contest Robinson s assertions that the Money is free of criminal  Robinson said the government made up a debt in a futile attempt to justify keeping his
