Dwayne Robb with wife Danica right and her sister Albina hover Over quadruplets from left Gwendolyn Lamara Latosha and Christopher. 4 better or worse couple deals with quadruplets by Charlie Bowden Munich Bureau Munich nearly two decades of working in army aviation and pushing troops left master sgt. Dwayne Robb ill prepared for the logistical Nightmare that has confronted him since january. But he has fast become an expert in logistics financial planning and time management. Necessity in the form of Lamara Latosha Gwendo Lyn and Christopher demands it. The Robb quadruplets born Jan. 11, gave Robb and his wife Danica the unenviable task of juggling time Money and resources. Everything that comes with having a Newborn just multiply it by four Robb said. It takes massive amounts of prior just a simple visit to the doctor can take up to two hours of preparation a fact that virtually has erased any possibility of social activities from the Robb Calendar. Add to that therapy sessi9ns three to five times a Day for the children mountains of medical paper work and shopping trips in shifts in attempts to find bulk amounts of food drink and disposable diapers. Robb is hoping that an upcoming move to fort Lewis wash., will help relieve the financial difficulties associated with a multiple birth situation particularly when there Are complications. The Robb infants were born two months premature and aside from their systems being underdeveloped Latosha and Christopher faced additional complications. Almost immediately the family was split be tween three hospitals in Munich because no single clinic could handle four newborns who needed specialized intensive care. That continued for a month before Mother and Chil Dren were reunited in one clinic. But the children remained hospitalized until late april. Christopher the runt of the four at birth has since brushed aside lung problems and is a bruising 13-Pounder. Latosha however continues to have difficulties resulting from severe Haemorrhaging around the brain at birth. While she sleeps she is hooked to a portable Monitor that tracks her vital signs and emits an ear splitting alarm if she stops breathing. The alarm goes off sometimes two or three times a night Robb said which throws him and Dan Ica into a frantic series of checks and double checks with both prepared to begin cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It can really Drain you Robb said. You get really wired when the alarm goes off and then it s hard to get Back to sleep. And i have to be up and with the troops at 6 getting with the troops is one reason for the move Back to the states. I be been trying to juggle my career As a profession al Soldier with suddenly being the father of four he said adding that the upcoming move would at least allow for a fresh Start. The family also Hopes the move will help relieve a financial commitment that Robb described As being catastrophic at one Point. It s not catastrophic anymore but hardly a Day goes by that a Bill does t come in that has to be paid up front he said. Out of pocket expenses so far have reached nearly $20,000 despite what the civilian health and medical plan of the uniformed services covers Robb said. And even with champs Many of the Bills must be paid first and then reimbursement sought a drawn out process that includes obtaining and translating de tailed descriptions of treatment from German doctors. The Monitor alone Cost More than $2,000, and a package of the disposable hookups which lasts about a month runs $150 and must be ordered a month in Advance. Such mundane things As disposable diapers at a clip of four dozen a Day can eat up a paycheck. After Danica was forced to quit her Job As a dental hygienist Robb took a part time Job at the local Community club. Still the Bills come. Although some local groups have provided assistance in a variety of forms it has been the help of individuals often Young soldiers that has made the difference Robb said. Pride sometimes interferes. It s Tough trying to ask for help without it seeming like begging he said. For Danica admittedly outspoken and with nerves frazzled by the stress of the past year it s come Down to a Case of either help or Don t offer. Too Many say they want to help but Only on their schedule. It has to be on the babies with that in mind she turned to her sister Albina who temporarily left Yugoslavia to help with the daily grind of tending four infants requiring special attention. Curiosity about the quadruplets also has taken its toll Robb admitted. Both Are tired of folks asking about the sick children. And both look Forward to the Day when they re no longer branded As the parents with the quadruplets. While it May never come to pass Robb said "1 look Forward to the time when i m just a father with four Here s what s not happening in your area St. Marys a.
