When the patient is unable to communicate the medical staff is required to consult with the family to determine what the patient s wishes would be if the patient could be consulted. Army policy specifically allows for the termination of life sustaining treatment when this is the wish of the patient and the patient is in fact irreversibly terminally ill or in a persistent vegetative state. Army policy does not use the term a living  this is probably one reason Why no one you have previously consulted gave you a definite answer. A living will is extremely useful in assisting your relatives and the medical staff to determine what your wishes Are and you can expect it to be followed if it is brought to the attention of the medical staff.
