It seems Bowden suppressed evidence about the promiscuity of Cady a victim because he believed Cady deserved to go to prison and did no to want to give the jury any excuse to acquit him. Upon arrival in Bowdens town Cady finds that Sam is a pompous self absorbed lawyer with no time for his wife Leigh Jessica Langer teen age daughter Danielle Juliette Lewis. His value system is so warped that he gets turned on when his wife makes an offhand comment about necrophilia and incest. Cady Worms his ways into their lives and slowly picks at the cracks that were already there turning up the pressure notch by notch. To reveal How he does this would spoil the shocks. Scorsese and screenwriter Wesley Strick also toss in a fair amount of Black humor. When Leigh tells Max she finds him repulsive he drawls Quot i understand. Today a moviegoers want it All in their faces and Scorsese has never been one to disappoint on that score. The acting is uniformly Superb. De Niro is Well de Niro. Nolte and Lange give just the right mix of crass self righteousness and whiny self pity for their roles. The most pleasant Surprise is Lewis supremely effective As a girl on the verge of womanhood who is an innocent eve to Cady a vile Serpent. One of the films most jarring scenes has Cady slowly corrupting Danielle with a soft soothing monologue that brings to mind the spider and the Fly Cape fear is the kind of four Star lightning Bolt that we be come to expect from  10 a sunday March 1, 1992
