Justice department said Friday it plans to file a lawsuit against major airlines accusing them of fixing prices by sharing plans for fare changes through a computer system. About three years ago the government began investigating whether airlines signalled Price changes to each other through a system intended to give travel agents and passengers warning of upcoming fare increases or discounts. Justice department spokeswoman Gina Talamona said Friday the department has told various airlines about the pending civil antitrust lawsuit. The Agency would not name the airlines involved or provide other details. Talamona said she did no to know when the lawsuit would be filed. The Federal investigation involves the same computer system that was the subject of a class action lawsuit tentatively settled earlier this year by six major airlines. The carriers agreed to distribute $458 million Worth of discount coupons to passengers who claim they were affected. It was not Clear if those same airlines might be named in the Federal lawsuit.
