Forces in Europe for More than 35 years a career which i started at Hahn a in october 1955. I was emotionally shaken when i read about the inactivation of the 50th tac fighter Wing at Hahn a on aug. 5. This is not just a deactivating a Wing this is a Farewell from Many sincere True american friends who shared with us and our other nato partners for Many years the Happy and sad Days during the cold War. I still remember and i am sure Many of my countrymen do the Days when the first . Air Force airmen arrived in the huns pick and introduced their free Way of life and fun to us. 1 remember How Happy we were in those Days when we were invited to their parties. In addition Many of us have started our careers through employment with the . Air Force and the . Government. I would like to take this moment to express my sincere thanks to All of the airman their families and the commanders. Best of Luck to All of you in the future. I will never forget you All. A Peter Martin Sohren Germany still serving in the Gulf Well i guess we re just about forgotten now. I notice that you done to care to show us on the weather Page any More. But i just wanted to get my 2 cents in for those who Are still deployed in support of a operation desert whatever it is As far As we Are concerned nothing is Over until everybody goes Back Home. A capt. James t. Taylor or. Persian Gulf military streamlining i would like to comment on the Root of the writers problem in a show some it is a fact that leadership professionalism and respect Are different in most branches of the service. It is also a fact that there Are bad cos throughout the military. A show some respect seems to neglect one important fact the Quality of the soldiers who will someday become cos. Too Many of the new soldiers feel that they completed Basic training and Ait Advance individual training and now have earned their $20,000 for College. Just because a Soldier has a High school diploma does not make him or her a Good Soldier and does not mean that their military Mission is Over. The new recruit is coddled through Basic training and taught Only about 60 percent of his or her Job. This Means that the cos at the soldiers first duty station Are Given basically a Lump of Clay in serious need of a face lift. It sometimes seems these soldiers have a Chip on their shoulder like they Are being forced to pay too much for their College Money. These Are the soldiers who question every order try to use army regulations As a shield 90 percent of the time improperly to their mistakes and push the cos to their limits of endurance by eating up time which would be better used to train other troops. Not All cos Are Good leaders or trainers just As not All soldiers Are Good followers. If the Soldier is not Given training and guidance at the first duty station what do you think shows up at the second if these soldiers somehow stay in the military and become cos Well you can guess the problem there. Fortunately the military is releasing these soldiers and cos in Ever increasing numbers and hopefully a show some respect will see these cos for what they Are drive on with her military career and learn How not to Lead troops. Disgusted with ?~bulls9 in the sunday Magazine july 21 your staff writer David Tarrant used poor judgment in choosing his topic. A dances with bulls is a deceivingly Beautiful title for such an atrocious article glorifying the suffering of countless bulls. The article made the poor frightened Bull sound like the villain when in actuality he was just another victim of animal exploitation. We were so disgusted by the picture and caption on the first Page that we had to put the paper Down and could not finish the article. A sgt. Patrick and Carla Lewis Raf Woodbridge England War work not done pm a reservist and very proud of it. I did no to have to deploy to Southwest Asia. I could have stayed with my unit which has Mission responsibilities elsewhere. I volunteered because in a a Soldier. In Man american fighting Man carrying out the presidents intent willing and ready to pay whatever Price necessary to succeed and be victorious in our country a name. My present unit has been in Southwest Asia for 6 months and still has both time and Mission left to Complete. We be completed and been called upon to meet each of our changing missions with professionalism and the soldiers spirit. This we be done successfully. In be increased my skills and Learned new ones from this experience. The single regret 1 have and i Hope comes to Light is that a few very few narrow minded individuals who Lack the a True vision of the ?T90s american Soldier were allowed to remain in positions of influence and authority. When hostilities ended so did it seems the fierce commitment to Success. In be been through four sergeants major and three Batalion commanders seeking some satisfaction As to Why these individuals were allowed to remain in position and not relieved or replaced. I was told a a we re Short a or a a we Veletter to the editor Only got 15 Days left a or my personal favorite a an no has to work with what he everything except the a can do attitude we re supposed to use As a guideline for our Mission accomplishment. All those i spoke with agreed with and were aware of the problem but their sense of urgency to redeploy Home overcomes their sense of duty and responsibility. A lesson for me to take Back to my a deployed Home unit is that the Mission and its responsibility can to Stop when the bullets done to Fly. Its Only Over after the debriefing and after action reports Are typed and submitted and you re released Home Safe. Only then do you a stand Down from your responsibility and begin again to plan and train for the next Mission. A sgt. 1st class Thomas f. Menke operation desert storm rights must be defended i have Only one question for the writer of the letter concerning a country and Western song by Holly Dunn. Where have you been the most common excuse used by Date rapists is that even though a woman said no she meant yes. The song enforces this a muted signal by clearly stating that even though the woman is saying no she Means yes. I feel that if a Man is a rapist it really makes no difference what is playing on the stereo. However it has always been easier for the Media and the Public to blame an outside Force for a malfunction of the human machine. The critics will tear into anything they want and the Media will stand behind them As Long As the majority allows it. For example heavy Metal musicians have been harassed for years As have rap musicians. It seems that you Haven to been concerned with the Media until now when it affects country Western music. As americans we All must stand together to defend every individuals rights instead of defending Only the ones which concern us personally. It is our responsibility to ensure that everyone has a right to Freedom of speech and expression including those speeches and expressions we done to really want to hear. A spec. Teresa s. Becker Aschaffenbur Germany homosexual question this is in response to a commentary written by Carl Rowan. He believes that open practising homosexuals should be allowed to join and stay in the military. Personally there is no problem working with or around homosexuals. I have every Confidence that they can get the Job done efficiently. As Long As Mutual taste is used there Are no problems in communicating either. To me As Long As they hold up their end what happens behind closed doors is none of my business except when in a also behind those same closed doors. In the military we can to always choose our roommates. In be slept in a tent with 11 men i did no to know. The showers arc open so in be showered with Many different men. The military always tries to separate males and females while sleeping bathing and bathroom chores. If the military were to allow homosexuals to join and stay in it would be As bad As having no separate male and female facilities. A sgt. E. Shifflet persian Gulf
