Here Abrahams flies Solo As director and while he and writing partner Pat proft face two distinct timing problems with this film a too soon after naked gun 2la and too Long after top gun which it loosely parodies a they still know How to Zap the funny Bone often enough to come up a Winner. As with All Zaz films this one is morally bankrupt socially a redeemable in bad taste and somewhat nonsensical a but As usual those Are the very qualities that make it funny. And its use of the Navy As a backdrop makes it even More appealing for military viewers. But Why arc we talking about plot there really Isnit any. The Basic scenario has Charlie Sheen As the tortured son of a Pilot who died in disgrace. When first seen he a living in a to pc and suffering from paternal conflict syndrome. In the first of Many sly digs at other movies a Medicine Man presents Sheen with a leather jacket and tells him a dances with bikers got this for  straight out of nowhere he a tapped to join up with an elite Navy flying Mission to the Middle East to destroy a nuclear Power Plant belonging to you know who. The Story however is incidental to the jokes. The Zaz philosophy has always been to toss five gags a minute at the Wall with the expectation that a considerable portion of them will stick and its no different Here. A lot of the laughs derive from the parodies of other movies a a list that includes 91/ weeks Rocky Superman diner do the right thing and gone with the wind. Quot one of the Best bits is a Takeoff on the eating scene in 9/2 weeks in which Sheen and base psychiatrist Valeria Golino have a love scene. She a naked and willing so hot that when Sheen drips an ice cube on her the water sizzles. So he tosses on a couple of eggs and some Bacon and then Breaks out a a Spatula. Things Progress to the Point where Sheen stuffs an entire Frizza into Golino a Mouth. Sheen who could pass for Tom cruises Cousin is a Good Choice for the Lead role in a top gun Knockoff. The film adds another bit of deja cruise by having Cary Elwis who battled cruise on the Stock car track in Days of Thunder play Sheen a fighter Jock rival. Jon Craycr is solidly funny As a Pilot nicknamed washout because his flying ability is just a bit impaired by the fact that he a Walleye. And Lloyd Bridges playing a Buffo Onish Admiral is almost As Good at expressing bemused be Fuddle Cmunt As the recognized master of this genre Leslie Nielsen. Since the Zaz alumni split up they seem to be competing with one another to Crank out these movies and there a a danger of saturating the Market. A Little of this sort of humor goes a Long Way.
