It was Over not just the Cross country meet but also my entire High school Cross country career. I knew this was As far As our team could take it winning the 1993 Central european championships. It started As a thing that meant nothing but being with my friends. It seemed like Only yesterday when i joined the track team and decided to run Long Dis Tance and i almost quit after three Days. I was t running for the right reasons. I was t Happy and this is the hardest hurdle becoming Happy run Ning. This is the difference for when a runner wakes up in the morning he does t ask himself i he s going to run Only when. Thus i stuck with it to see if i could take it. But then that season was Over. I went Back to the opening laugh Barb Strausberg Germany Bart Amsterdam Netherlands United states and following Ray coaches program rested til the fourth of july. I can still remember the feeling i had when i slipped my running shoes on again. It was a feeling that i was once again Safe Back in a familiar environment and i was Happy. I trained on the Beach ran a few local Road races and trained whenever possible to be ready for this Day this season the Best season. When practices began for the 1993 fall Cross coun try season i was ready mentally and physically. Our team came prepared to Chase a dream that was plan Ted Over a year ago and now would Bear fruit. We All realized that the faces were nothing More than the tip of the iceberg and that the sweat and sacrifice we would have to pay Lay buried deep and wide beneath the surface. We missed last year s runners but new ones came Forward to accept the challenges that our coaches provided us. They too quickly become be Lievers that come nov. 5, the shape spartans would win the Central european championships. For 14 weeks we worked together in the rain wind heat and cold. We remembered what our coaches instilled in us that for a runner there is no such thing As bad weather. Our team song became Eye of the Tiger and so we Hung Tough and stayed we continued to encourage each other Correct each other and Over time we came together to form a team of thoroughbreds focused on Only one goal t to win every race by a team Effort. Inculcated by our coaches we did not broadcast our objective. We were reminded by them that champions run with their feet and not with their Mouths. Here s what those feet produced we went undefeated All season beating teams that were supposed to run us into the ground. But we won because we were what our coaches called namely that Bur team performance was equal to the sum of our individual efforts. We practice raced and won As a team. We daily Drew strength from each other. When one teammate had a bad Day another would have a personal record to pick up the Slack. We clinched our conference championship at Home and then went on to win the division ii regional championship. I have never Felt so proud to be associated with people As my teammates my family. I will Cany them in my heart As i would carry them on my Back for 5 Kilometres if4hey needed it because they would do the same for me. They no we made the impossible dream come True by winning it All and the Only Way i can Ever repay them will be to run every race i will run in my life for them. Now i Tell myself there will be More races in col lege and As in life against my toughest competitor myself. But i will always keep one thought the same i la remember the 1993 season As the year i ran for my team Nathan King Pat Williamson Aaron King Kevin Ammerman Dan Williamson Caesar Muneio Lawrence White James Callaway Josh Benson and our coaches Mike Edwards de Forte and Dale Chidester. Then there were our fam Ilies and the few friends who believed in our dream that became reality. I la remember the words the emotions the feel Ings.
