Juanita Leonard made the charge during divorce proceedings before the couple agreed to an out of court settlement the los Angeles times reported in its saturday editions. Leonard a 1976 olympic Champion who went on to win titles in five professional weight classes admitted in a saturday news conference that he took cocaine and drank heavily during the Early 1980s when his career was on the skids. Leonard said he indulged in cocaine for three years quitting in Early 1986. A it was wrong it was childish it was stupid a he said. The times cited Maryland court records that showed Leon a Ard did not deny using drugs during his Stormy 10-year marriage., however Leonard who appeared on nationally televised anti drug Public service announcements in 1989 with Thomas Hearns did not name cocaine As a drug he used. In court Juanita Leonard testified that Leonard used cocaine and the last time she knew her husband used drugs was in 1987. I had taken some cocaine from him and flushed it Down the toilet. I believe that started one of our arguments a she testified. A Juanita Leonard also testified that in addition to physically abusing her her sex husband also threatened to kill himself with a gun while he was drunk. Sex Champ sugar Ray Leonard. He replied he believed the altercations occurred during a particularly bad Point when his career a had temporarily
