After next year no conversion to personal use will be allowed although unspent Money can go to political or charitable organizations. Senators who leave office Are not permitted to convert unused Campaign Money to personal use although at least three have done so and no action was taken according to the Center rep. Stephen Solarz d-n.y., is eligible to convert nearly $1.4 million and rep. Dan Rostenkowski d-ill., could take More than $1 million a while 18 other lawmakers have at least $500,000 available said the report by Kevin Chaffee of the Center staff. Those Able to take the Money for personal use Are members who were in office when the House voted in 1979, to prevent such conversions. The members voting to outlaw the practice exempted themselves. On nov. 30, 1989, a new Law ended the Benefit even for the eligible members but gave them until the end of the 102nd Congress to convert the Money. The 103rd Congress takes office in january 1993.
