Only 17 hopefuls turned out for the first practice. Then four upperclassmen decided not to play and the squad was reduced to three upperclassmen and 10 sophomores and freshmen. A we cancelled our opening game sept. 8 against Ansbach but we still had Hopes of Fielding a team because we had a Bye the next week a athletic director Len Tamowski said tuesday. A a however no other players came out and none of the boys who left the team came Back. So last thursday sept. 13 the decision not to Field a team this year was made. You just can to play football with 13 kids. The risk of injury is too  Tamowski said Bonne a enrolment is Only 310 in grades 6 through 12 and around 175 in High school adding that there Are Only 36 students in the freshman class two thirds of whom Are girls. A the administration coaches and i Hope this is Only a one year thing that we can return to football participation next year a Tamowski added. Deciding not to play this year prep pickings feels was the right Choice. It is better not to play than try to Field a team take a pounding sustain injuries and forfeit the remaining games. Bonne a opponent this week was scheduled to be Ulm. Gordon Gartner principal at Ulm was the first principal at Bonn when it expanded from a Junior High school to a full scale High school. He was a Little disappointed Over Ulm not having a game this week but could understand Bonne a decision. A naturally we would have liked to have played a game this week. Its always disappointing to have a game dropped from the schedule a Gartner said tuesday. A but you cannot play football with a handful of people. I certainly can appreciate Bonne a  the crusaders were 5-2 in 1988 but fell to 1-6 last year. The loss of Bonn could cause difficulties in schedules of the other a Central teams. Oesterberg which started with Only seven games winds up with three byes. Oesterberg originally was scheduled for a Bye last week but the Falcons were Able to arrange a game with Greenham common and the two teams battled to a 14-14 tie.
